From TOS:

Daniel Hamilton put it simply Saturday night when asked about his future college destination.

If Kevin Ollie stays at UConn, the five-star forward will be a Husky.

If Ollie bolts to the NBA - which, according to most league rumor mills, is becoming a legitimate possibility - then Hamilton will "probably" not end up at UConn.

"I'm going to be signing there in a little bit, but I still have to talk to coach and clear up some stuff and talk to him about some more stuff," Hamilton said.

Ollie has told Hamilton he has no plans whatsoever of leaving UConn. But the 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing needs to be 100 percent sure his head coach will be there if he fully commits to UConn later this month.

Because if Ollie does leave, Hamilton "more than likely" wants out as well.

"He just told me that he's going to be there and that he's not going to go anywhere," Hamilton said of Ollie. "I just have to weigh out my options and see what's next. Because if he goes somewhere, I have to do something about it and talk to my family about it."

If that situation were to unfold, UCLA seems like the likeliest beneficiary of the whole ordeal. Hamilton's older brother, former five-star guard Isaac Hamilton, is currently on campus and, after sitting out last season, he's slated to see big minutes in his sophomore campaign.

Playing those minutes with his little brother next season is something he's already put in Daniel's ear.

"He would love for me to go over there and join him," Daniel Hamilton said with a laugh.

But in order for that to happen, Ollie has to choose another job other than being UConn's current head coach.

Thought that this article would quell some concern about Ollie making a statement he is coming back since he is telling incoming players, and probably recruits, that he is coming back.

At this late date Hamilton could just wait until late June before he enters summer school, and his commitment is official.
By that time Ollie will have decided what his future plans are.

I just cannot see Ollie leaving UConn in shambles... I don't see it in his character. He knows that if he leaves he sets the program back immensely

Wow so KO could actually end up leaving to coach a rebuilding franchise with terrible owners and a disgruntled Kobe...

it's already happened to his family (I think)

I don't blame him for being cautious / pessimistic

other coaches do lie, but they're not Kevin

The KO contract has to be cleared up immediately. There is no reason to drag this out. Too many recruits have this question mark hanging over them. Get it done this week.

I'm sure Warde wanted it done the day after the parade. Ollie has a smart agent.

I still don't quite understand the money issue. It's not going to be much difference coaching at UCONN. This is after making $20-25m (and being smart with his money) during his career. $2.5m per vs what 4m? Plus, more job security (= more future earnings) at UCONN; In college, you largely control your own future, whereas in the NBA, it's largely dependent on management. I suppose if they make him one of the highest paid coach in the nba ($7m+ 5 year deal) then we are talking; that's snot happening though.

Also, more family time, which is more important to a family man than. Oh, and JC is essentially a father figure, so he's part of the family too! :)

Kobe, with his knees and other problems is getting to be a non factor.
I cannot see KO bolting, first - his family loves CT and will probably not move
Second - JC put a lot on the line for KO and JC would be dissappointed if KO bolts - I know it's a business decision but the bond between KO and JC is more than just a coach/explayer bond

You're saying this like the above article makes it sound more likely. All that happened with the article is that Hamilton has been seeing all the same press we've been seeing and is waiting like he's always been.

Nothing here actually changed.

The cieling on his income is higher in pros though , right ? If he turns into an elite NBA coach his salary could skyrocket. Also the competitive factor , he might believe he can outcoach a lot of these young coaches in the playoffs .

That's all completely true, provided success. There's also the factor that the NBA is always going to be there for a guy like KO, so the money is in the pipeline if he wants to take it. It's not going to just disappear overnight imo. I don't see this as a strike while the iron is hot type situation. Too much respect for Ollie in the NBA ranks.

Ultimately, it probably comes down to what KO values most in life. I'm betting that right now, it's what UCONN (and everything that situation entails) vs continued life in the NBA.

$3M/yr with the promise to keep him as the highest paid AAC coach while we sit in purgatory. Also, a contractually binding promise to bump him up once we get into a P5 conference and enjoy P5 money. Warde needs to lock him up ASAP. Losing KO to the NBA for a contract in the $3M/yr range would be quite a significant blow to UCONN and Warde's legacy.

The espn report made it sound like they were very close to getting a deal done . If that's the case hamilton shouldn't be left out of the loop . if KO was sure where he would be next year he would tell his 5 star recruit, obviously isnt

How many years in a row have we had some sort of issue hanging over our program that makes recruits nervous? Calhoun retiring, no immediate news on his replacement, APR probation, etc.. etc... Can we please end this and get the offer out to Ollie's Camp? .. and I'm still amazed we win that Championship after we had all that crap hanging over our program.

How is Dham left out of the loop? In the article he states that KO told him he's going to be here and isn't going anywhere.

Still think you're reading too much into it. What else would Hamilton say other than what he's always said? Until there is something official, he's going to keep saying the same thing, regardless of how close anyone is saying the deal is.
