And while we're at it: last years UConn offense was comically inept. They scored points at a rate far, far below any team in the conference. First downs were viewed as an unnecessary act of aggression rather than a goal. Points were a dream of a faraway land. Punting was a motus operandi. Three and outs were seen as vital to the national character.

Talent? Really? Unless you think that last year, all of a sudden, UConn had one of the five least-talented teams in FBS, that's a ridiculous argument.

Actually, we should try and find out why our talent level decreased during games.

We seemed to score in the first half. Not in the second. I would not be a coaching issue, like lack of adaptability. The coaches installed the correct plan. The kids got more inept as the games wore on.

So our talent level must have been leaking out or something. Just focussing on the offense, since there didn't seem to be any leaking on the defense.

What pisses me off is that grown men (Dez, GDL, PP) are throwing college kids under the bus by calling them untalented. Dez and GDL have the ducking nerve to tell us that we are the ones with the problem, that we are the ones being irresponsible and ignorant. UConn's offense scored a total of 10 points in the 2nd half of BE play this year. They didn't average 10 points in the second half of each game, they scored 10 total points over 7 games. That is an average of approx. 1.42 points per game. This stat alone tells anyone w/ a pulse that in game adjustments were not being made. Was the talent great...no, but it was good enough to do more than that. This has more to do with coaching than talent.. Adjustments, adjustments, adjustments...

Even if we added the 10 points in OT v. UL, that is 20 total points, or 2.85 / game. So sad.

Its a growing trend and not just in sports - people blame their predecessors for this or that. So when does the new guy own things? -It used to be the outer boundaries was a year. Now if someone is media savvy - it could be 3 or 4 years or even more. Lack of accountability is becoming a huge issue in many sectors.

That's exactly right Chief. Just like it wasn't the coach's fault, we came from trailers.

Or it's not the commissioner's fault that nobody wants to be in the conference.

I don't think there is an argument on whether we need to upgrade our offensive personnel. Of course we do. We've had below Big East offensive personnel the last two years. But our offensive personnel, combined with our defensive personnel, was good enough that a good coach would have finished above .500 in the Big East both years. We went a combined 3-9.

And I'm really tired of SDH's "Whitmer isn't good because he had too many turnovers" crap. We as a team had too many turnovers and the first part of the season he made mistakes QBs with more experience don't make. But guess what -- if we could have run the ball a lick, and always been in third and long, anyone really think turnovers wouldn't have been less. We lost this year because we changed all our OL schemes and couldn't execute the new ones nearly as well. Period.

This is dead on imo.

This coaching staff left a large number of Ws on the playing field the last two seasons and as a result this program has regressed. We needed an average running game this season to set up basic play action and good production from two very good TEs. That would have put this offense in the top 75 percentile or so and we have probably 8 wins. Instead we had an over-used 160 RB who could not break a tackle while three much bigger backs sat and watched from the sidelines. We had a wildcat formation what was borderline laughable. We managed to couple that with some trick plays which succeeded to literally knockout a promising young QB in the last game of the season.

I can only assume that P is staying with GDL for next season. And I can only assume that means more of the same crap. At which point at the end of the next season P will say next season is the one because he will have upgraded the talent. Problem is, in both 2013 and 2014 he will be working with much less talented defenses. The relationship with GDL is borderline bizarre btw.......

I agree with everything that you have said Paul. Ultimately its up to Pasqualoni to make the right adjustments to his staff and the type offensive that Uconn runs. I don’t have much confidence in him making the right decision. After Addazio was hired at BC he was asked what kind of offense he was going to run. His answer was that he would decide after he evaluated the talent that he had on the team. What a unique idea, adusting your offense to your talent. No, I think we will continue to see the same thing next year which will be a slightly improved offence running the same very predictible pro-style plays. For those who argue its a talent issue, remember Kent State drop close to 30 points ( if memory serves me correct) on Rutgers this year and our powerful offense managed 3 points. As a dieheart season ticket holder I will continue go to every game, attend the blue/white scrimmage, go to signing day, and check this web site everyday. Maybe things will change but my guess it will not happen until there is a change at the top.
