2022 Recruiting: Desmond Claude

New Haven kid had a big weekend. After picking up his first major offer from BC earlier in the week he got offers from Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, Creighton, and Kansas State this weekend.

6'5" point guard from within the state with offers from some big programs. Any idea why we haven't been involved if so many others know of him and have offered?

It seems like we are after a scoring guard for 2022 more than a point guard. If Cole chooses to use his extra year of eligibility in 2022-23, then we’ll have Cole, Diggins, Gaffney, and possibly 2022 combo guard who can handle PG, plus Andre Jackson as a potential point forward. If Cole leaves after this year, I do think another ball handler would make sense.

Another ball handler always makes sense IMO. We’ve been way too short on ball handling lately. I prefer a scoring guard with the ability to hit the 3 and create off the dribble.

Considering Cole can and seems better off the ball offensively I don’t hate a bigger ball handler

I think its his name. Doesnt feel right. Claude sounds to villainy. No way he could play for the good guys.

Any chance we try to get involved with this kid now that we seem to be out on all the other guards we've been recruiting? Saw he was going to PSA next year. Seems like his stock has really risen.

Sounds like it’s wait and see for 2022 until the spring and we know more about RJ/Tyrese’s plans for 2022-2023 season.

Chief approves. I like his game and think decisions will be made for us in terms of how our stated “depth” will actually performed now that Bouknight’s gone and they will have to shoulder more of the load. Of course, at the moment, there’s more transparency elsewhere in terms of playing time.

Hope we're at least talking with him as it'd be awful to see a local kid lost to places like Maryland, ND, etc.
