I'm surprised the Sherrifs injury didn't get more attention. That's a good sized caste, so I doubt he's been throwing and wonder when he will be able to. It calls into question what amount of work he can get this spring. Would like to have Boyle on the roster, but this further supports that Davis was ahead of him.

Our depth at QB and RB (for that matter) is still a concern.

Well if Tyler Davis ever had a golden opportunity handed to him this is it. The starting QB still has a cast on his wrist and it's almost spring training.

Joking aside, this was pretty cool to see and I appreciate the work Des put in on it...not easy to get to Storrs at 6 am

1000% agree. Good job by Des here. Offseason work is every bit as (maybe more!) important than in-season work. As a fan, it's GREAT to see the guys getting after it so early in the morning and GREAT job by Des for getting there to document it. I think he got a pic of every player just about! LOVED seeing those tweets.

Looking at a few of these body transformations, it really does make a difference in being able to RS a FR so he can get that year to bulk up and grow into his D-1 playing body. It seems like every player on the team adds about 15 pounds of lean muscle every season.

Whatever they are paying Coach Balis, I hope there is room in the football budget to keep him away here at UConn for a very looooooooong time.

It is very noticeable that all of our guys are lean...even the lineman. It will be interesting to see how much stronger those guys are on the field this year.

You like to see that the work has been put in so we're not physically overmatched. We need this to translate and have the feet and knowledge of our OL at the same level as their body mass. The force needs to be applied.

Here's a flashback for you.

"Mississippi State football strength and conditioning coach Matt Balis has left the program to take a similar position with newly appointed Head Coach Bob Diaco at the University of Connecticut. Dan Mullen's first hire was luring Balis away from Virginia to Miss St. They were together at both Florida and Utah and Mullen often referred to Balis as the most important part of his program. Balis was the head strength coach at Virginia from 2007-08 (when he met then UVA asst coach Diaco) and was an assistant director of strength and conditioning at Florida from 2005-06. Balis was also the head strength coach at Utah in 2004 when the Utes went unbeaten and won the Fiesta Bowl.

When Balis arrived at Mississippi State, former running back Anthony Dixon said Balis was the driving force in helping to change the culture of the football team and called Balis’ offseason workouts “the kind of hell we needed."
This move to UConn comes as a shock to say the least, but when you consider that Balis was on the staff at Virginia at the same time as UConn’s new head coach, Bob Diaco, it makes a bit more sense. Clearly they have some type of friendship and would like to join forces once again as Diaco attempts to build the Uconn program."

Getting Balis may have been Diaco's best recruiting job. Balis's salary is in the $225K range. Top SEC S&C Coaches are earning salaries in the $300-$400K range. We'll need lots of P-5 money to keep (and hire) the best assistants. As for the top paid S&C guy, note the school where he's coaching. Diaco must be drooling at that Hawkeye budget.

1. Chris Doyle, Iowa, $515,000
The highest-paid strength and conditioning coach in the nation makes the same in salary as the school's offensive and defensive coordinators. Doyle's program centers on "Break The Rock," which takes its inspiration from the famous Jacob Riis quote about the stonecutter who sees no progress after delivering 100 blows but breaks the rock on the 101st. The Hawkeyes' new football performance center includes 23,000 square feet that Doyle, who has been at Iowa since 1999, presides over. An Iowa win against Stanford in the Rose Bowl would trigger a 16 percent raise for Doyle, upping his 2016 base pay to $597,400.
