So last night I was watching highlights of the 16 inning Cubs-Bucs game. In the bottom of one inning the Pirates had the bases juiced with nobody out. Surely the game was going to end soon. Nope! Out comes manager Rick Renteria who points at the LF and RF, meaning out comes toe CF. So with the "shift" on, and no CF, the next batter hits a grounder to the left side for a DP. Next guy gets out as well.
So, are wacky defensive shifts based on saber stats going to drastically lower scores as we know it? Three teams already employ defensive coordinators.
Watch those DBacks, Tigers and Angels Things are gonna be funky out there.
