Singare game tonight is being live-streamed

analysis after five mins: very raw, very long, aggressive on help d, passive offensively and on the glass

11 PTS
4 REB (1 offensive)
2 AST (1 potential / foul)

2 TO
0STL
3 BLK (5 altered)

4/6 2FG
3FG
3/5 FT

Overall: He’s 7 foot with a frame to put on a bunch of weight. Long arms. Natural shotblocker and doesn’t seem to foul much while contesting everything. Takes away baseline well, but is out of position a lot on defense. Makes up for it with speed and size. Rebounding leaves something to be desired–he’s getting pushed around a lot right now. Should have had 10 rebounds tonight but he got outmuscled. Had a couple nice post feeds, a FT line drive, and a post up… but in general I would expect him to be limited on the offensive end for a while. Raw with high potential. Good pickup for a 3*.

  • Starts the game with a backdown hook to his right hand. Didn’t think he had that in his bag.
    • In general he’s extremely limited on offense. Isn’t going to be creating for himself, and doesn’t really understand spacing on a pick and roll to get a lob, and not strong enough to establish position for a dunk or lay in on his own.
  • LONG arms, and looks to be a legit 6’11 or 7’ by my eye.
  • Hands aren’t as good as you’d like at this stage. He’s raw… not unexpected. Bobbles a lot of easier rebounds even when he had good position, or got the ball ripped away.
  • Post-defense isn’t excellent. Stays straight up but doesn’t move his feet to stay in front well.
  • Next post up was ugly. Ended up behind the basket throwing up a prayer. I like that his team is trying to get him post attempts early though.
  • Really nice frame. looks like he could easily get to 250 without carrying much excess weight. Too thin right now and gets bodied. He looks like he can put on more weight than Brimah did… probably 10 or 15 lbs heavier at the same stage.
  • Positional defense leaves something to be desired. Doesn’t do well when plays break down. Turns his back to the ball.
    • He has clearly been trained to take away baseline though. He does a great job with that.
  • Love his energy when posting up. Drew 3 fouls battling in the post even when he didn’t get the pass.
  • Relying too much on his height to rebound right now instead of hitting someone and then going for the ball.
  • Rebounding in general is a disappointment.
  • His instinct is to BLOCK SHOTS. Love it with his length. Altered a ton of shots
  • Raw as a passer. More Sanogo than Clingan in that regard.
  • Nice job stopping a 2 on 1 in the second quarter… wasn’t an altered shot because they just didn’t take the shot.
  • Does a solid job contesting shots without fouling.
  • Screening is okay. I think the guards had wonky timing, but Singare seemed to have a stable base and didn’t foul. Need to see more games to be sure about it.
  • Couple years in the S&C program and I would imagine he looks like a different player.
  • FT stroke looks fairly confident and smooth. Some potential there.
  • Doesn’t look comfortable on the perimeter at all, but did have two nice post feed for assists
  • Had 1 great FT line drive with a spin to his left hand… and 1.
  • Really great athleticism verticailly. Kid can get up.

Saturday Jan 14th at Hoophall
12 noon Castle plays IMG
3pm Ross plays Oak Hill

Sunday Jan 15th
Time not Listed Brewster/Solo Ball vs Cushing @ AIC Springfield
St Thomas More also lists Hoophall on the 16th, so I'm thinking there is a second Prep school event at AIC on these days that I haven't located the details of yet.

Fri Jan 13th 7:30pm West Haven (CT) vs. Gulliver Prep (FL), coached by Hall of Famer Ray Allen
(Did we collectively know this? I didn't)

Vermont Academy plays at Brewster on the 11th so I will try to catch the 2025 prospect

STEWART v. Eastside Catholic 12.9.22

25 PTS
5 REB (1 offensive)
3 AST (8 potential)

4 TO
2 STL
0 BLK

5/7 2FG
2/7 3FG
9/11 FT

Overall:

Tale of two halves. He looked abysmal in the first half. Had something like 4 points and 4 turnovers on ⅛ shooting. When 0/4 from 3. Second half he was ⅔ from deep, missed 1 2 point shot had 21 points and 0 TOs I believe.

He has good size and bulk. S&C program will take his game to another level. When he cuts the babyfat and gets stronger… watch out. He is EXTREMELY skilled for his size. Has step backs, side steps, euros, finishes with both hands. Good shooter, but will need to change his shot selection when he gets here. We don’t need him to be the guy hitting tough shot after tough shot.

Coming into this game, I was most concerned about his passing ability. In AAU he was a bit of an iso baller/ballstopper at times. I was very surprised by the # of assists and potential assists. He actually was moving the ball really well. If he can do that and defend, he’ll get minutes next year.

I think of him as almost an anti-Karaban. They’re both around 6’7 or 6’8 and 210lbs, but other than being solid shooters, they have a completely different game. Karaban is super efficient but needs to expand his game past just catch and shoot 3s and back cuts (adding a better drive and some creativity finishing will help him a lot). Stewart kind of needs to get back to basics and focus on the back cuts, screening, easy shots. He makes a TON of tough shots, which I love, but we will need him to be more effecient.

Defense was solid, but not great. Out of position pretty frequently in team defense, but he had the size and tenacity to take Cofie one v one a lot. I think vs a faster SF he might struggle a bit athletically.

In game stream of consciousness:
  • He’s put on some not so great weight. Long arms and a good frame though. I think 6 months in the S&C program with someone watching his diet and he’ll show up day 1 much more cut. My guess is he’s 6’7 210.
  • Loses his man a few times early trying to make the hero play.
  • FWIW the opponent is no slouch… 4* center Jacob Cofie is on the squad as well as some D1 football players
  • I think he’s a little bit better athlete than Karaban right now. Getting stronger and quicker will need to be a priority for him. Less skill development than the other (non-Castle) players we have coming in.
  • Shooting stroke looks pretty. Nice balance and release.
  • Coach put him on Jacob Cofie the second half of the first quarter. Was giving up 2 inches in the post, but fun, physical battle.
  • I wouldn’t fescribe his defense as good, but it’s better than you see from a lot of high school recruits we’re after.
  • Might be the worst game of basketball I’ve seen this year. Score was 9-7 after the first quarter. Probably a dozen fouls in that time. Multiple travels. Just awful.
  • Ball movement and passing look solid. In AAU he was a bit of a black hole/iso kind of player. Very different here. His ability to comfortably more the ball might earn him more minutes than I expected.
  • I want him to look for his shot MUCH MORE than I’m seeing here. He’s barely even looking for it, and it’s why his teams offense sucks.
  • No one has ever taught him how to hunt for the ball from the wing. Running off screens, misdirections, etc. I think that will elevate his game tremendously. He could learn a lot doing the same drills as Karaban. Screening and popping, back cutting, etc.
  • Definitely a tough matchup on defense. Spent a lot of time guarding Cofie, who is probably 6’9 230 with some perimter skills. Great practice for the Big East.
  • Kind of an anti-Karaban. He needs to handle pressure better and not get sped up. He’s plays down to the competition.
  • IMO he would look better with a better team. No spacing, and his teammates aren’t really making basketball plays a lot of the time.
  • Sometimes gets too fancy in the half court. Just hit a body and get the ball up–especially with his great size.
  • 4 TOs in the first half, I believe. Really cleaned it up in the second. I think he scored all but 4 points in the second half as well.
  • Stopped settling for 3s in the second half and got a lot of scoring done.

Silly foul on the first possesion

This is a very Andre-esque pass

Caught out of position on defense… gives up the 2. He does this a lot versus the crappier players. Isn’t going to work vs a 6’9 4* player.

Iso 2. Would like to see him kick this out here when stopped. You can see how long his arms are to get this off though. And he uses his balance and long step well.

I'm waiting/hoping for him to have the same relative results that Clingan had coming into this season with strength and conditioning.

I agree that losing baby fat and adding 10-15lbs of muscle plus some focus on agility and lateral movement and he'll add a level of explosiveness to go with his high skill level.
