Turnovers and 3 pointers. I think sometimes he gets a bit locked into driving to the rim even when the defender stays right with him leading to losing the handle or getting stripped. Should be relatively fixable if he keeps his head up when he drives or gets comfortable with pulling up in the middle.

Don't remember if DD was supposed to be a good 3 point shooter in HS, but it's something he needs to work on. 30% is too low for a guy who can afford to be picky with his 3 point shot selection. Either something he just needs to work on in practice or only shoot the 3 when he spots up.

His handle did improve as the season wore on and his propensity for getting stripped drastically improved. Success --> confidence + added strength = as said, a beast!

He should be a lock shooter on 3's. His release is high, back, silky and quick. He showed that in HS and in flashes here. Now that he's Carmelo Lite backing his man down and can go to the goal, 3's will be more open for him.

The DeAndre of the last 4 games of the season looked nothing like the DeAndre of the first 26 games of the season. It's a small sample, but if the light did in fact turn on for him, then you can throw his tendencies and percentages from the first 26 out the window.

During the last half dozen games when he really came on his 3pt % improved quite a bit.

he's not Melo light. Not even in the same sentence. That said he's a beast and lottery pick next year. But Melos offensive games on another planet. So that's no insult to DD

Probably the best that can be said comes from opposing players who say DD is a beast. He is one of the most improved players in Uconn history.

He should have a 50-40-90 year % wise. Looking forward to him being efficient and also effective on defense.

Still not quite sure what to make of DeAndre as an NBA player and where he would go in the draft but I think those stats you predicted should be about where he will be at. Besides the confidence it seemed like he finally figured out where he should operate on the offensive end of the floor.

I don't know if he hits 40% of his 3s; maybe 35% is a better guess. But I agree with the other two. Think we're in for a huge year from the big man.

How can anyone expect 40% on 3s and 90% at the line from DD?

Hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a huge stretch.

He's a really good shooter. maybe not 90 % from line but should be high 80s. If he's not forcing 3s idk why 40% isn't feasible? he needs to make a huge jump in consistency/efficiency for the team to win a lot.

Was a nice treat to see him finally come into his role towards the end of last season. Became a total beast and nearly propelled us over Gtown. Don't think many people nationally realize how good he can be.. if he keeps it up he will be a huge threat down low for Uconn.

Possible, sure, but I don't think they are very reasonable expectations. It's not like he's really been forcing 3s so far in his career, around 2 per game. I don't think he'll get any plays to free him up at the arc, I guess most of his attempts will come off a drive from Boat or Bazz.

High 80's again is possible, but he hasn't gotten past 80% in either of his last two seasons, and you typically don't see much improvement on FTs throughout college careers for people already shooting at a decent clip. It's the guys who suck at it who work hard on it in the offseason. There are probably fewer than a dozen guys any given year who shoot 90% on a season averaging more than a handful FT attempts a game.

So he won't improve his three point shooting or ft consistency ? Great. I think he's a great shooter who had terrible offensive awareness until late last year. 50-40-90 should be his target even if he falls short.

the strawman complex on this board has gotta go. nobody isn't saying he won't improve, I actually expect him to be our leading scorer next year in a balanced offense, but do you realize how rare a 50/40/90 season is?

If he put up numbers like that, I'd say he'd be on the short list for NPOY. Last year he averaged 12 PPG and was 47/31/70...

I could see 17 PPG and i guess 50/35/80 is probably more realistic IMHO...

50-35-85 isn't way out of scope. Or atleast it shouldn't be. How rare is it? Idk you tell me. Did you not read I took a step back after my first post? McDermott averaged 55-50-89, porter nearly 50-40-78.

I would like to see DD add some weight, continue to work on his handle and jumpshot consistency, and also become a playmaker. He can score right now but when he gets the ball he doesn't look to pass. If he can turn into a playmaker it can really take his game to a different level.
