I wish him luck, but I think he should have stayed. He will probably end up in the D league for a while and then who knows? Hope he does finish his degree. He is going to need it.

I trust that he wouldn't be going if he wasn't confident in getting picked in the first round. We'll know soon enough.

Huh? At the very least, he'll be able to play in Europe. Many guys make millions in Europe over the course of a career.

Kid can get his degree in 10 years if he wants (like Taliek and TR).

You're not the only one. Like aceboon said, I also said during the tourney run that if DD played so well that we won a championship, it would be worth losing him to the NBA. If the projections are accurate though, I think a guy like Deandre who struggles with confidence at times and still needs to add a good amount of strength is taking a big chance if he's not a lock for a guaranteed contract.

He's a great kid and I wish him the absolute best but as a borderline 1st round pick I feel he had a lot to gain by adding weight and dominating during his senior season. He has lottery pick potential and may have pushed his chips to the center of the table a year early.

Hopefully he ends up like another Cali guy Phil Ivey when he pushes the chips to the center of the table. High risk/high reward for DD with this move. It will all come down to his individual workouts. Dinwiddie & Daniels both could have benefited from additional time and feedback.

UConn runs on DD....kid needs to sign a contract with Dunkin Donuts asap...thanks for the chip Deandre and I hope celts grab you and bazz haha he just needs to get his handle better and I believe he could be a great NBA player
Possible similar players: Trevor Ariza and Otto Porter of the Wizards (Ariza used to be about DD's weight when he played for the Lakers), Corey Brewer from the Wolves...all are good defenders and DD's offensive skill set is actually better than all three in some areas.

While everyone should finish their degree, I completed the last 6 units of my Uconn BA in December after a 23 year break, your comment is snarky and bullspit. DD, at minimum, will likely make more playing overseas than most of us will earn in a lifetime. Best case, he makes that in the next 3 years in the NBA. no need for those kind of chicken sh@t comments in my humble opinion.

DD needed to go pro for the following reasons:

1) He's already 22, and he'd be 23 at the time of the next draft. (# of players aged 23 at time of draft who were drafted in top 20 picks.. 2013- None, 2012- None, 2011- None, 2010- None, are you getting this picture?) GMs project based on age. If he came back to school and dominated, it's what he would be supposed to do as a turning 23 year-old senior and his stock would stay around the same, or only slightly improve.

2) If an injury to Nerlens Noel can cost him 6 spots in the draft, imagine what it would do to DD's late first round stock currently. Older players' stock is impacted worse by injuries than younger ones', since teams draft older guys in a hope they can contribute immediately.

3) His stock is artificially inflated right now due to championship exposure. His talent is legit, but the exposure that influences opinions (most likely!) wouldn't be repeated next year.

4) Stretch 4's are hot in the league right now and that can help earn him a late first round look. Could be hot next year, too, but maybe not as much.

5) There is 0 guarantee he'd improve and dominate next year. For example, he shot 42% from 3 this year, and it is reasonable to suggest that would go down if he faced more defensive pressure and took more shots. He certainly could improve in some or even all areas, but how likely is a consistent improvement? It would have to be dramatic to raise his stock. He averaged a 13-6 this year. Anything less than 18-8 probably LOWERS his stock, considering expectations and the age quandary.

6) He can come back for his degree any time he wants later, and he would have missed out on a year of potential basketball salary earning. As we know, it's the 2nd and later contracts that pay, so the younger you get to those contracts, the more earning years in your prime you have.

I kind of think he's gotten good advice from KO and JC and is making the right decision.

I posted last night that I thought DD might be making a mistake but after looking at his age, I agree that he has to seize his opportunity as soon as possible. Had he not had that extra year of prep school I bet he would have returned. Work hard Deandre, you've got the talent to succeed in the NBA.
