I witnessed this in person on Sunday. The Liberty simply do not have enough support for Charles and every win requires a near-heroic effort from her.

It's kind of sad because now the Liberty are stuck in Westchester playing in a tiny venue. If Charles decides to bail for greener pastures (she's have better support anywhere else with the possible exception of Indiana), that franchise would be in a dire situation.

That's a franchise in a big market with a good fanbase. What a shame if James Dolan and poor roster construction end up killing it.

And yet the Liberty have more UCONN players on the roster than any other team in the league - 4 of them. Charles, Hartley, Stokes and Nurse. Only 1 team has 3 - Seattle - with Stewie, Sue and Kaleena. The rest have 2, 1, or 0. What a bummer for New York...

Charles is such a class act, and the article fully reflects that. She really ought to just demand a trade to Phoenix or Seattle for next year so she can pick up the championship she so richly deserves.

Not a class act is team owner Jim Dolan. Fortunately, the article pulls no punches about that, too:

In November, Liberty owner Jim Dolan announced that he would be selling the Liberty. Had Dolan cared a bit more about the future of the franchise, he’d have likely waited until a sale was complete to announce it. But Dolan simply wanted out and said so. A few months later, when no one met his preferred asking price for a team he’d already said he no longer wanted, Dolan moved the Liberty out of The Garden—which holds 19,763 and routinely drew 10,000 to Liberty Games—to the Westchester County Center, capacity 2,300. Besides selecting Kia Nurse, a talented two-way player who is not yet a consistent scorer, with the tenth pick of the draft, the move to Westchester was the only big move the Liberty made all offseason.​

Trader Bill Laimbeer would take her in (pardon the pun) "a New York Minute". They would love to have her in Las Vegas. You put Charles on the Aces by the end of the week, and the Aces become a playoff contender THIS year. I know that won't happen, but that would ALMOST be like LeBron going to the Lakers. She'd have more help there than she does now.

She is the face, heart and soul of that franchise. Perhaps next year she forces a trade like she did from the Sun. The Liberty are already in a dire situation. They're circling the drain as we write. Hopefully someone, some corporation or NBA team will buy the Liberty, relocate them and operate and promote the team in a professional manner.

The lack of production from the perimeter players on a consistent basis is frustrating. Katie should bench them all and go big to get the guards attention. Kiah @5, Tina @4, Kia @3, Amanda Z @ 2, and Kia Nurse @ 1. They should get all the rebounds.
