***this should really be titled "Time Since"...oh well***

@tcf15 had the "days since" bit about beating a ranked team. It was pretty sad, but thankfully we've finally made that irrelevant. But it got me to thinking about a couple of other things we used to do regularly but haven't in a while.

The last time we were ranked was the pre-season 2016-17 poll (#18). We fell out by 11/14/16 and haven't re-appeared. It has been 40 polls since we've appeared in it at all. The last time we've been out of the polls this long is the stretch from 2/3/81-12/6/88.

The last time we've been ranked in the Top 10 in a poll was 12/9/2013.

The last time we've been in the Top 5 was 11/21/11.

The last time we were ranked #1 was 3/2/2009.

The last time we beat a team ranked in the Top 10 in the regular season was Syracuse (6) on 2/13/13.

The last time we've won a regular season conference title was 2005-06.

This one made me weep a little. 5 years....

Didn't Lousiville win it in '09? I thought ours was in '06

Damn. Even worse. Louisville (who we smacked around earlier that year) was 16-2 and UConn ended 15-3.

It's been 12 years since we've won a regular season conference championship.

Note on the 2009 BE. Pre-tournament AP Poll:

1. Lousiville
4. Pitt
5. UConn
11. Villanova
13. Syracuse
23. Marquette

They had 2 Final Four teams, and Villanova eliminated Pitt to get there. Louisville made 4/8 teams from the BE, though they lost to MSU.

Please refer to AP Poll dated April 7, 2014 - you may want to rethink that fact
Sure. I'm talking regular season polls. Obviously we've won 2 fairly recently, and that's what you play for.

But that's not what this post was about.

2011-2012 was such a let down. If we take 2/3 from Florida State, Arizona, and Villanova and sweep the rest we'd be 11-2 entering conference play and in a great spot for an at-large bidderoo.
Didn’t we lose to Iowa state in the opening round of the tournament?

This post really pisses me off.

That's depressing.

Can we really say a rank Cuse is a rank team?
It’s not for us to say whether rankings are deserved or not and plenty of teams beat ranked teams that have questions about their position. Our job is to play them and beat them, and we did just that with Cuse.

Just messing with the Cuse.

I love how sensitive some of you all are. Getting defensive about a factual post lol.
People pointing out that the team has won two titles in this window are both right and missing the point.

Obviously titles are what you play for, but no one wins a title every year, and regular season success ensures you always have a chance. Even in 2011, which people sometimes call a fluke, the team was in the Top 10 pretty much all year. That matters--there's a reason why almost no team does what we did as a 7 seed, but teams doing it as a 3 seed (as we were in 2011) happens far more frequently.

rankings, polls, … meh. we're UCONN. 4 mens championships in last 20 years (the most!), and the womens version is called "The Husky Invitational." 'nuff said. Number One at the end of everyone's season is all that counts. yeppers, numero uno, the big kahuna, the whole enchilada, king of the hill, the "L" on everyone elses forehead, no soup for you, sayanara sucker, step off chump,....its ours. winning isn't everything, its the only thing.

Sure. We've been that 2 times in the last 14 years and that's great. Been to the Final Four too.

But if you don't think the downward trend since 2014 is in part because we didn't have successful regular seasons, you're fooling yourself.

When you win the NC like we did in 2014 aren't we the defacto #1 team?

please post a selfie from that "We're Number Two!" parade. I won't be going, since i'll be at the beach, or snowboarding, depending on the weather. just win, baby, since, uh, you know, winning isn't everything, it's the only thing, and Hurley is our ticket to the parade.

For obvious reasons I'm not counting the end of year poll since it isn't tracking that.

And yes, that's the ultimate goal. Duh. But again, the people who think having two losing seasons in a row, not appearing in the Top 25, Top 10, and not winning conference titles is okay...well, you're wrong.

We caught lightning in a bottle in 2014. I'll never give that up, but people looking at the end result only are like people who only think short term profits matter. Our fundamentals have been weak. Teams who win titles have strong fundamentals.
