David Williams No Longer Coming

We're desperately thin at RB. This one hurts unless we have a couple of real surprises. Next.

Report: South Carolina graduate transfer RB David Williams visits SEC West program

>>The one-time starter for the Gamecocks, who announced earlier in the offseason that he would transfer to Connecticut, reportedly visited Arkansas over the weekend, according to 247 Sports. Williams, a graduate transfer and eligible to play immediately, announced plans to transfer after he lost playing time throughout the season, and didn’t play in the Birmingham Bowl. Williams played in nine games last season, rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He had less than nine carries in seven games.

Arkansas, meanwhile, is looking for running back depth following the retirement of Rawleigh Williams III after a second neck injury.<<

Intra-conference transfer? Interesting, but in a not good way for UConn.

I didn't realize kids could back out of a commitment and commit to another school, this late in the game. Or is it different since he's a grad student technically? It seems very late to be admitted for this year.

Sucks for us though.

This is about the time the men's basketball team got their grad transfers 2 years ago. It is strange he committed so long ago as a grad transfer only to back out now.

Stays in the SEC with. Chance to stick it to his old school.

The BD recruiting fail hurts.

We're going to have to trust Randy's track record regarding the running game. He always seemed to get and keep enough running back talent in the backfield. We just have to pray that Newsome remains healthy for the entire season.

If a move a kid makes results in more Twitter and Instagram likes, he will make that move. This fits that profile.

I'd love to have him but Arkeel is our main running back. Not sure if he'll be featured at Arkansas or not but that might help too.

Our disadvantages in recruiting players cannot be overstated, especially since the demise of BE football and our demotion to G5 status. I consider it a near miracle that RE once had this program ranked as high as 16th nationally, even if only for a week.

Losing Williams but gaining Mensah is a huge net positive. I'd rather have the 4 year player who was getting big name P5 interest. Mensah looks like a potential stud.

No doubt Losing Williams was big but now can only hope that the additional carries for Hopkins and Vickers will pay dividends.

From Spring game:

"Several young offensive players filled up the stat sheet Friday. Running back Nate Hopkins punched in three touchdowns, while fellow back Ja’Kevious Vickers added 54 rushing yards."
