From the Courant. No, not a recruiting article.

“That’s such a crowded room,” Hurley said, after the Huskies’ practice on Monday. “The front court, there’s not a whole lot of separation. One guy [Josh Carlton] is a young player with upside at both ends. You have an older player that gives you defense [Kassoum Yakwe], you have an older player that gives you offense [Eric Cobb]. You’d love to see somebody emerge in practice, be a butt-kicker every day, somebody locked in on details every day and just kind of emerge on a daily basis. Not necessarily by default. You’d love guys to be earning opportunities, to win it, not by default.”

Josh just needs to step up. We’re not going to prioritize 2 seniors over a sophomore with the way the season is going.

On the other end, I hope JC doesn’t see his leeway this year as something that will continue thru the next 2 years

I fully expect JC to do well in conference. If you look at who he really struggles against it’s like the long athletic bigs who can step out, run the floor. There just aren’t that many of those in conference.

Do we have a date on when Diarra is coming back or is this a redshirt year?

Such a breath of fresh air to have a coach who's willing and able to appraise what he has and where he needs to upgrade. He knows exactly what the situation is and that our frontcourt is nowhere near high-major level.

He got 3 solid recruits and now can turn his attention full time to Cockburn. Honestly, that might be the biggest part of his job over the next 4 months, more important to our program's future than anything that happens on the court (barring a miracle Tournament run).

Doesn't sound like it. From the JI:

Sophomore Mamadou Diarra has been practicing a little more with his teammates lately, but the UConn big man is seemingly not close to returning to action.

“He’s probably doing a little bit more live work,” Hurley said. “But he’s dealt with so many knee issues dating back to high school, we’re being as conservative as we can with him. For both his short-term and long-term knee health.”
