I can totally see Danny leading USA to Olympic gold one day. It seems like the kind of achievement that Hurley would aspire to. His style to me seems built for FIBA. I’m just a fan but would love to hear the thoughts of others more knowledgeable.

I don’t think it would happen while Hurley is at UConn. With the way he doesn’t let up in the the off season, I don’t think he would compromise his process at UConn and take focus away from the program.

Would be very cool for Dan Hurley and with the trajectory he is on, he seems like the perfect guy for it.
It would be cool. However, I would caution about what happened to Hurley's good friend, Mr GQ, Jay Wright. I know the changing landscape of NIL and the transfer portal was a big reason why Jay Wright left, but so was his experience with team USA as an assistant coach. According to many Nova fans on SB Nation, Wright got burned out from never taking a needed break during that year. The Nova fans, some who claimed they were in the know and connected to him, stated he already made up his mind after he return stateside from that Olympics that 2021-2022 was going to be his last season.

it'll be a lot of work but for someone like Dan Hurley it'll be extremely stimulating and scratches his ambition itch.
Exactly this.

Coach K coached the Olympic team to scratch his NBA itch. I could absolutely see Hurley do this, though with the 24/7/365 recruiting of this era, between HS and the portal, it may be infeasible for a college coach to do it.

Didn’t k and geno do it while coaching college?

They did, but it was a different era. with NIL and the portal it seems like a big risk to spend that much time away from campus. Dan Hurley himself said that being available to the players is a top priority. When the players are in campus, Dan Hurley and the staff are there for them.

I think his greatest attribute was getting out of Steph and Klay's way, honestly. The warriors changed the game of basketball because those two were given the greenest of green lights.
I still have doubts on how DHs interactive, hard coaching style will play with nba stars. I know guys like Pop run the quintessential motion offense and people will listen to him, but he was grandfathered in with proven success in the league.
@McLovin cracked me up when he said 'imagine Dan Hurley telling LeBron 'whaley ran everywhere!!!!"
I'm sure he'd be fine but I think you're spot on with Kerr, and he's had success with his hands off style.

Hahaha it’s just funny to think about… but I do think he could be a successful Olympics coach because that’s more about X’s and O’s, team bonding and culture than getting guys to run everywhere at practice every single day.

the experience would either make him leave for the nba the next year or stay in college forever

“"The strength of the team is the depth, and so if we can play in four- or five-minute bursts of just playing intense defense, hitting bodies, rebounding being physical, then it makes sense to play that way."— Steve Kerr after today’s rout of Serbia. Sounds like they’re already trying to play UConn style ball.

He will someday.
