I know. I know. LA or DC would have been preferred landing spots for Paige. Let’s hope that Paige along with whoever the Wings name as their new coach can clean up the mess in Big D.

Season 5 No GIF by The Office

I had a 3-1 chance of not seeing that happen and it still happened. It will be a long wait between now and April.
Actually, Dallas had a 45.4% chance of getting the #1 pick when you combine their odds 22.7% with Chicago’s 22.7%, which they owned because of the Mabrey trade last season. That put the Wings odds slightly ahead of LA who had a 44.2% chance to secure the top pick.

Maybe LA can swing a trade. I’d love to see Paige in LA with Brink & Jackson. That would be the makings of a great young team. We would see the return of Showtime in LA, the coliseum would be sold out and WBB would be supercharged with excitement.

There is no doubt that Dallas will take Paige with their # 1 choice No other team really has anything Dallas would need to trade off of this spot. Paige is like drafting Caitlin Clark. A game changing Athlete who will put the Dallas Wings at the top of list of teams competing for a WNBA Championship

There isn't a player on the LA Sparks, that Dallas could use, including Cameron Brink. (Dallas already has a center who is better that Cameron)

Paige might just want to play in Dallas considering there is NO State income tax on her earnings. That means all of the salary and other income that she makes she keeps a lot more in her pocket than giving it up to California or DC.

True. But considering the lucrative marketing opportunities that would be available to Paige in Tinseltown, the taxes might just be insignificant.

So, am I sensing a John Elway type of ultimatum here...? Doesn't sound like Paige though.
Honestly, she should consider it. IMHO this was the worst outcome for Paige, unless the ownership group gives Miller way more latitude, and they hire the right coach (though really, who?). Paige would have been a terrific fit with Hamby, Brink, and Rickea, and LA desperately needed a distributor who can also score from outside. I just don't see the Paige & Arike show working. Someone tell me why I'm wrong.

This. Think of the deals JuJu has been cutting in LA. No way Paige cares about saving a couple thousand in state income taxes on her measly WNBA rookie scale salary compared to landing several six figure NIL deals in LA.

Good thought. Play with Arike in Dallas or, hopefully, Azzi in CT. But decent chance Dallas will be back in lottery next year, too
Dallas back in the lottery next year would be far more likely if Paige returns to UConn.

She also saves on all her deals she makes in Dallas, so in the long run she just might make more playing in Dallas vs LA or DC.

I don't think so, unless she wants to move to Texas and make that her permanent residence, though she could of course domicile in a zero income tax state the rest of the year regardless of where she lands, and, btw, her salaried income from the WNBA will be taxed according to whichever jurisdiction she earns it in. I imagine NIL deals would be taxed according to her state of domicile.

Paige could have ended up in LA if she had gone pro after last season. Instead she returned to UConn. And it didn’t work out in this lottery either. Not meant to be.

I will be happy to watch her in Dallas with Jacy, Maddy, and maybe Lou.
