Current Roster's NBA Potential

They’re an interesting case. They haven’t had the role or minutes yet to show their stuff. But the physical traits are there.

They pretty much have a year to prove it which could be next year.
I just do not see it. I think we will continue to recruit over them. They are definitely fine reserve players even if a little light in scoring.

I’m not sure we’ll recruit over then for next season but Dan Hurley will definitely bring players in to compete with them.

Fans in general underestimate the value of screening and cutting, and AK is an elite screener and a god-tier cutter, along with being a very good shooter. These are all force magnifier skills in that he's constantly adding value to possessions without ever touching the ball, or having a single thing run for him.

A smat team will take him and he'll be one of the league's best 7th/8th man types who comes in with the first wave of subs at the 6-minute mark and absolutely feasts playing off of whoever the team's primary creator is.

I would kill for him to end up on the Celtics. I honestly hope we trade Hauser (much better shooter than AK, and a better 1v1 defender; much worse cutter, passer and help-side defender) to get under the tax and pick AK early 2nd round to get those minutes for the next decade.

Braylon is the obvious one

Karaban will get drafted and right now I’d bet he finds himself a permanent roster spot. His longevity will be up to him

Tarris is an interesting case. I think he will get a 2 way contract regardless if he’s drafted or not and go from there. He’s 6’10 260 and moves a lot better than 6’10 260 should. That’s worth something

I’m judging Solo and Silas based on next season, not this season. Silas should get a shot. He’s already put in 2 star performances and has 1.5 more years to refine and improve the inconsistencies. I see AP AA contention next year for him. Unfortunately I don’t see it for Solo as a 6’3 score-only SG that isn’t scoring hyper efficiently or on very high volume

Reibe looks like NBA talent. But depends on his opportunities and how he develops into it. Does he start next year or do we tap the portal and have him off the bench again? That’ll play a big part on his professional timeline. I don’t know how many years this takes but I see it one day

I don’t see it for Stewart and Ross. They have NBA builds but unless they exponentially outperform next year, the production matters and it’s not near an NBA level. Doesn’t take away from them as players. If I had to pick one, I’d pick Ross if he picks up Andre Jackson-esque energy/leadership traits next year

Furphy has looked very unready for this level so far. But he’s a 6’6 PG, let’s see how he develops over time and what his stock looks like as an upperclassman

Furphy will be interesting in terms of how the staff sees him contributing next year. He’s hasn’t looked to what many thought and does look a tick below what we thought athletically.

Not every NBA big shoots 3s nor is it a requirement, Reed has qualities that fit with backup bigs in the league right now
So did Adama. Look what happened to him. I see major similarities, however Reed is not as skilled.

I've already explained how Reed is different from Adama and it's on the other end of the court. Once again, I don't get boneyarders who express over and over again how much they hate the NBA and don't watch it but yet try to explain it to those who actually do watch it.

We can't discount the leap that these guys can make in 2.5 months. Sanogo and AJAX exploded in the last 2.5 months of the 23 season.

A sizeable portion of the boneyard said this about Sanogo and AJAX in January of 23

Sanogo- "He is a black hole down there".

Then he learned how to pass out of the post and won tourney mvp

AJAX- in January and even into early February...
"Bench him"
"He is a liability"
"Look! They're sagging off of him every time! Can't make an NBA roster if you can't shoot"

Wait before we comment on two NBA bodies. Especially Ross, our best athlete.

Adama is far more polished and in command of his skillset.
Thats not what we were saying about him this time of his last year here. he was just coming off a 10 pt 3 rebound game in a loss against Marquette and then a 14 pt game 9 rebound (not terrible) loss against st. Johns.
But we weren't calling him polished and complete.

When we rave about AJAX and Adama we are usually referring to the spring '23 version of these two.

I think the draft is going to be heavily bifurcated in the future. Teams will roll the dice on super-athletes and high ceiling players in the first half to 2/3's of the Lottery, but will be much less likely to invest in projects with mid and late first round picks. There is going to be a migration towards more polished players for those picks that can produce immediately. The projects will be expected to work on their game in college.

It's a skillset for the G league/Europe. He can't guard in the NBA and no NBA teams are interested in dumping it down to an earthbound 6'7 center.

I think this is correct, and we've seen the smartest-drafting team – Memphis – get out ahead on this philosophy over the past couple of years.

In 2024 they took Edey (4-year player) 9th, Wells (3-year player) 39th and Cam (5-year player) 53rd. All three have been huge successes.

In 2025 they took Coward (4-year player) 11th. He's been first-team all-rookie caliber.

The top one-and-dones and imports will always make up most of the top 10 picks, but after that teams have gotten smarter about drafting role players who fit a need and can execute.

I just posted something similar and then realized you beat me to it so I deleted my post. I didn't say it as well as you anyway.

I was thinking of Demary as a poor man's Tristan Newton. So if Tristan is having a hard time securing a spot in the NBA, I would think Demary would have an even harder time. But Demary has played so well the past 2 games, I could see reversing that if this continues. Newton becomes a poor man's Demary. But that is saying a lot since Newton was an All-American. But maybe by the time Demary finishes is career at UConn (in 2027!) he has a better chance in the NBA than Newton. But isn't Newton taller?

And everyone raves about Demary's defense, but it seems to me he is not that quick. Guys still get by him. His best trait is his strength. But won't that be negated at the next level?

I would compare Jayden Ross to Tyrese Martin in terms of build, which explains why some see him as having NBA potential. But Ross has a long way to go to show he can do what Martin did at UConn. But with one more year after this, anything is possible. I'm not sure who a good former Husky comp for Jalyn Stewart would be. Maybe Tyler Polley? He plays in Europe which is where I imagine Stew ends up.

I think Reibe is a lock in the first round next year and will be very successful in the NBA. His draft ceiling is #1 overall.
Hope you are right. Potential is certainly there. But #1 typically goes to a one and done so I think you are reaching, but hey, why aim low?

Wait to comment? But isn't that the nature of discussion boards, you don't have to wait and you reserve the right to change your mind as things develop? Wouldn't we run out of things to talk about if we waited until we were sure about everything?

Yes but it’s not as though Tarris is a vertical athlete. He’s more suited to play DE.
