Cuban is being rumored to selling a majority stake in the Mavs. Hmmmm, why? He is a guy who knows the media landscape better than anyone. He is also on record saying he believes the next NBA deal will be ok, albeit shorter in length. His main concern, the media landscape going forward. The bubble is about to burst. There is no way any league, college or pro, will get a higher deal than they currently are getting in the 2030s. What does that mean for college sports? Like always, the business of college athletics is very late to the party.

Nothing about Cuban selling the Mavs can make me worry about anything

Think I read somewhere that he wanted to build a new arena with a casino attached. Probably smart to team up with a casino mogul family although they wouldn’t be able to do it in Texas.

So you think he is selling the Mavs in 2023 for a potential bubble in 2033? Doesn’t really make sense if strictly dollars and cents was his reasoning given how much he would earn in that time span and the fact that the NBA is not going anywhere in that timeframe.

Plus the media landscape is changing but not dead. The NBA is insanely profitable and has a product people want that is only increasing worldwide. Cuban has said that the NBA has to consider the streaming market better going forward not that there won’t be any more money based on a bubble. The money must come from streaming.

If nothing else, i have 3.5 BILLION reasons to still do exactly what he’s doing now…

It is definitely an unusual time if the media right deals are going to be what's been projected, you'd think that he'd wait 1-2 years.
Although about those projections, it seems like that all started with 1 writer writing that the rights could "double or triple" during the next negotiations, and everybody just ran with it. We really have no idea what the networks are going to actually do.
With the new minimum games rule, and the in-season tourney, it seems like Silver is trying to juice the numbers as much as possible this season. It's a good strategy, we'll see if it's enough.

He's 65 and also leaving Shark Tank at the end of this season. Perhaps it's just a case of cashing in his chips and spending his days doing other things that don't involve making money with his family and friends while he's still young and healthy enough.

I have heard alot of rumors that he is going to run for president. He thinks both candidates are extremely weak. Between this and the shark tank departure he now has a few billion to spend and all the time in the world

I’m sure he could still do that and own the Mavs, additionally he plans retain control of basketball operations. Also, I’m pretty sure shark tank doesn’t take much of his time since filming is all done in a few days.

Who knows what his plans are with the $$, but I doubt he’s just walking away from making money.

It doesn’t necessarily mean he thinks there is a bubble, could be he just thinks the growth isn’t really there anymore and that there are better investment opportunities elsewhere.

I like Cuban, but he is kinda a dipshit and I lean this way too. Maybe he could have organizations/departments pitch him Shark Tank style when they need funding.

The NBA has jumped the shark and he's jumping before the shark jumps him.

He bought the Mavs for $285 million and they are now worth $3.5 billion.

Sports franchise valuations have had an insane return over the last 20 years. Maybe he feels that growth is slowing down.

Not to be political but I just know most people in my life are not thrilled with any of the options we currently have. I don't think Cuban would do great haha but cant be much worse than all the others

Oh, I understand life quite well. And I understand hyperbole and attempts to read between the lines as well

It's just not there

If Cuban told you why he's selling, and he'd be silly to provide that argument under such circumstances, then it's just one man's opinion. You see, another rich and smart and successful person will be buying the franchise. And he evidently has a different opinion of the future. Good and smart people can and do disagree

I think Cuban thought winning would be a lot easier. Think he's tired of the rat race

The 4th rd kicker misses a 41 yarder wide left and I emphasize WIDE LEFT, would’ve missed from any distance honestly.
