CT Sun sold to Fertitta family, will relocate to Houston

Booo. I know it was inevitable, how much can you spend on court fees and lawyers when the outcome is very much in doubt. I guess we're just UConn nation. That's not too shabby...

The Sun is setting in the West... Could the Sun turn into Comets in Houston?

.-.
I imagine that this means that Jen Rizzotti will soon be out of her job as the President of the Sun.
I wonder what she will choose to do next, possibility become involved in coaching again, and if so whether that could mean a job with Geno's staff at UConn.
Time will tell.

If it had to leave Connecticut, I would've rather have seen it in Boston, but it is what it is.
It should have been Boston. The WNBA inserting itself into the situation was a load a hooey. First the commissioner says they're going to let the tribe pursue a deal that's best for them, then it's a claim that the WNBA dictates where a team can move in a relocation situation. 🤷‍♀️

Sources said the franchise is expected to use the Comets' name, harking back to when the team was part of the league from 1997 to 2008, an iconic original franchise that won four straight championships from 1997 to 2000.

This is where I have questions.

The CT Sun were the Orlando Miracle.
The original Houston Comets folded.

Will the new Comets merge the record books? Will the team's records just include Miracle/Sun stats? Will this be a fold and relocate such that the new Comets will have the old Comets records and the Miracle/Sun stats go by the wayside?

Exactly my thought.

I'm really surprised someone from the Boston area didn't buy the team so they could still have a team close to UConn. I am not a fan of a city getting a team after they already demonstrated the lack of support for the sport at an earlier time.

Someone from Boston had a deal with the tribe and it got blocked. Local investors got involved and the WNBA still blocked it.

When things go off the rails, they really go off..
