Crystal in the clear

In the article Geno says Christyn doesn’t handle the ball but that’s not true lately. I saw her running the point a little at UCF and again against Memphis. Not a lot, but some. I think Geno’s trying to get her to expand her game in another direction which helps explain why her scoring has been a bit more uneven lately

Geno, as we do, see's a lot of talent in that CW package.
CD (this time Danger) has many of the attirbutes of Moriah, whom, I see as Uconn's best guard (sorry Sue, I feel like a traitor). Apologies again for not seeing the humor in CD (Danger) posting up.

Not to get off topic, but the article, like so many I read about women’s college basketball, has inaccurate statistics. It says Pheesa has 2025 points and need 9 points to get into UCONN’s all-time top 10 in scoring, well Pheesa has 2125 points and is already in the top 10. Otherwise, a good read about one of my favorite Huskies, Crystal Dangerfield!

I stand corrected, even at 2125, Pheesa is currently 9 points away from entering the top 10. I forgot to include Lou. Carry on!

Nan in the original posting above indicated that it was not fully accurate. The point was that Danger is in a class of Assists along side of Sue Bird, a legend at Uconn. But it nice that you keep accurate record for Phee and Katie Lou, hold on to your hat--there will be bigger numbers and important stats for those 2.

CW played a bunch of point for the u18 team. Because of that, I thought she would play more point than she for UCONN.

The other thing, I am sure other teams develop their players. In my brief time on the Husky bandwagon, one thing is a given. If a player goes to UCONN, they will be able to do a lot more at the end than they could do at the start (see KLS). Even kids that don't get much time improve.

It is not just Geno. CD is ridiculous with the post players. I wonder if Natalie Butler ever publicly attributed her success at George Mason to her work with CD.

There are some holes/missing pages on the UConn website, but here are some interesting stats. Keep in mind that seasons are slightly longer in the last decade or so.

Most assists in a season:

1. Sue (senior) 231
2. Jen (senior) 222
3. Diana (sophomore) 208
4. Moriah (senior) 204
5. Renee (senior) 199
6. Moriah (sophomore) 195
7. Moriah (junior) 191
7. Gabby (senior) 191
9. Gabby (junior) 190
10. Shea (junior) 191 [This makes no sense, but it's straight from the Media Guide]

Most assists in a career:

1. Moriah 659
2. Diana 648
3. Jen 637
4. Renee 632
5. Sue 585 (missed 26 games as a frosh)
6. Bria 559
7. Pam W. 546
8. Maya 544 (not too shabby for a 3,000-point scorer)
9. Jill B. 541
10. Laura L. 531

Crystal's assists so far:

Freshman 114
Sophomore 142 (note that Gabby had 191 last year)
Junior 157 and counting

Career for 2.6 seasons 413

We have up to 12 more games remaining. If Crystal continues to average 6 apg (she's 1 assist over 6.0), she'll reach 229. She could challenge Sue's season record.

If Crystal averages 6.0 per game (despite losing some all-time great finishers) next year, another 228 would give her a career total of 713. That would be 64 more than Moriah tallied. In short, if Crystal stays healthy, she will likely become the career assist leader. If she averages "only" 5 apg next year, she would still have 675, 16 more than MoJeff.
