Women's basketball makes history during Final Four

Really sucks when facts ruin a perfectly good story line, huh.

Uhh, I think you're missing what wasn't said: namely the TV ratings. I suspect if those were good, they'd have been mentioned.

Game had 2.97 million viewers, including 881k in the 18-49 demo.

down 3.5% from last year's 3.081 million

Well the other team in the final does draw less than 400 in the seats, so ... I know Stewie comes from that area but I'm not laying that on UConn dominance. Also, it is worth noting that ESPN is on the viewership decline in general as more and more sports markets get their own little streaming niches (and more and more of their day to day programing sucks).

Just posting the link and the excerpt...

UConn Domination Leads to Seven-Year Low For Title Game

BY PAULSEN ON 04/06/2016 ESPN, NCAA TOURNAMENT (W), RATINGS

Historical significance aside, a 31-point rout is no way to attract an audience.

Tuesday’s UConn/Syracuse Women’s NCAA Tournament National Championship Game earned a 1.9 final rating and 3.0 million viewers on ESPN, down a tick in ratings and 4% in viewership from UConn/Notre Dame last year (2.0, 3.1M) and down 32% and 30%, respectively, from UConn/Notre Dame in 2014, when both teams were undefeated (2.8, 4.3M).

The Huskies’ blowout win, which clinched their fourth straight national championship, ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched title game since UConn/Louisville in 2009 (1.8, 2.7M). Since ESPN began airing the national championship in 1996, only twice has it attracted fewer viewers — the aforementioned 2009 game and Tennessee/Rutgers in 2007 (2.9M).

UConn has now played in four of the five least-watched title games since ESPN acquired rights, with three of those coming during the current run of four straight championships. It should be noted that the team has also played in four of the six most-watched games, with their 2014 win ranking sixth. "

A lot of folks at the NCAA looking to do some positive spinning after talking to a lot of folks at ESPN who are looking to do some positive spinning. Heck, they all need jobs.

Social impressions across Facebook and Twitter

How enlightening.

Here's an interesting quote from that article:

OK - where in all that spinning social media gobbledy is the only important metric - how much money did it make?
Lots of people been sayin' what many here have been ignoring - If you ain't a UConn fan why watch?

Sorry RMB but I'm having pizza - home made shrimp and asparagus. It's in the oven and nearly done.

Well my pizza is headed home right now. Poppa John's bake at home vegetarian with chicken - a garlic infusion delite.

How about the other games as a comparison vs UCONN? For example the final four? And the E8? And compare that to last year? Would like to see.
