Another sub par first quarter..if they didn't have a 5 pt spurt at the end of the quarter it would have been a tie game
I find myself less interested in quarter-by-quarter analysis. I know, I should pay more attention to it. But mainly what I saw in the 1st quarter was Sarah looking dominant when she needed to be — and I also saw how she was moving, and it didn’t look fully free — and Azzi was like lightning in a bottle, especially in that end of quarter spurt.

When I see the two of them play like that — turning defense into offense — I am much more confident than ever for the tournaments.

I think you should be doing what you always do--. you offer good analysis on this site. Other than brief observation the qtr-to-qtr analysis is pretty useless vs your trained eye as you're pointing out with Sarah and Azzi.

Basketball is a 4qtr game. Not a 1 qtr game. The team aren't pros - they are college players. What has bene shown throughout the season and apparent even in the Creighton game, they are very capable of missing many shots then overcoming that with terrific defense and explosive offense that can turn instantly.

In this game the 3pt shooting was fantastic. It was fantastic. Who cares one qtr it wasn't. great? Three pt shooting teams are going to miss a lot more shots than they make from 3. If you have 1 amazing qtr, eventually you wull revert back to the mean.

What could be great though is to see if Serah can hit that jumper in the lane. I expected her to use her touch much more this year rather than trying to be Betts or Beers. that jumper she made, it looked so sweet. Loved the jump hook and jumper she took. maybe next game see if it could be replicated more.

In the postgame presser, listening to Ash a thought occurred to me. The other day I posted about how Kayleigh must be very happy to find herself in Storrs. It occurred to me that Ash has been similarly happy for two and a half years to find herself in Storrs. The way she speaks is a tip off, but also the way she glows during and after games. She is a mature young woman who is right where she needs to be to express and expand the full range of her talents, and she knows it.

I had a similar feeling about Allie after hearing her speak in the pregame presser yesterday. And when Geno said after the game that Ash Kayleigh Allie and Jana are doing exactly what they need to be doing for the team, I can’t help thinking that the team is at a very good place on the development curve for this season. If KK’s finger can recover in time, and Blanca can get back up to speed over the next 5+3 games, then there’s a very good chance the entire 9 player rotation will be peaking at just the right time.
I can’t quote her exact words but I do remember seeing an interview with Ash where she described her feelings after her official visit (actually it might have been another visit) and how she knew as soon as she arrived that this was the place for her! I can’t really convey how she said it but it was very touching and very sincere.

When they unfurled the “Basketball Capital of the World” banner, the announcer referred to 17 championships? Maybe I miscounted, but I thought it was 18. Is my count wrong? It’s not like I am counting being ranked #1 at the end of the season without playing a tournament?
