Just how does a school "offer" this money? Not that this would change anything, but the NCAA should ban the school from talking NIL since they aren't the ones who actually hire and pay the kid. I realize they'll do it anyway, but let's pretend a little.
The sports in college has gone wacky!

Considering some basketball players are getting $2 million for 1 year, with Dybantsa set to get somewhere between $3 and $4 million according to reports, this isn't surprising at all. Especially since football makes way more for Michigan than any D1 basketball team makes.

Who actually cares anymore? You can’t “police” life. Life is too powerful a tide. NIL will kill college sports eventually, people will lose interest. It will trivialize football and become about as important as minor league baseball. Does minor league baseball have a championship game? I don’t even know or care. It will take some time for people to dissociate “college game” from “big money” but it will eventually happen.

Dybansta will get double that. Thats my prediction. There has been talks about his camps ballpark going around for at least 6 months now. He is going to smash the 5m mark

Portnoy went on the record to suggest he’d pitch in 3mm for a UM QB. Maybe that inspired some additional donors.

Since Jim left they’ve finally let the money cannons fly at UM. If you’ve seen their QB situation this year you can see why they’re desperate. Can’t lose the #1 QB in their backyard.

Could be. We'll see. This is where I got the $3-$4 million figure. Where did you see over $5 million?

Inside AJ Dybantsa's whirlwind recruitment that's pushing NIL to new limits

Or what? Sit out the season? Your leverage is the highest bid. No need to pony up any more than the next highest guy. Market is market. So unless KSt and BYU get into an auction bid he’ll just go for the highest number available. A program can’t be that stupid to just give money away just because, as it’s poor precedent.

This is dumb. If you gotta pay this guy that money, for one year, if i am another player, I want half that or I am gone.

These coaches and NIL collectives are expecting other players to just take peanuts. What happens when a kid outperforms his NIL.

I think the NCAA is toothless on this issue, especially with the BiG and SEC.

I don’t see how that kind of money is sustainable. Labor costs will be uncontrollable. The NFL has salary caps for a reason.

A podcast a few months ago, from recruiting guys during the summer camps.
Lol. Most of these guys on podcasts are dopes. At least the article had quotes from people involved in recruiting Dybantsa. Your $5 million prediction could end up happening but I'd lean toward trusting the quotes in the article more than most of these oafs on podcasts.

Many of them are, agreed. Some aren't. We will see eventually what his NIL deal is and we will know then.

10 million over 4 years is 2.5 per. So really 7.5 over 3 years, as he won't stay 4 years. The 2.5 is with incentives too, so no clue on the guarantee. Still a ton of $.

Trilly has said BYU's offer to Dybantsa was $5M and that was a month ago. I'd be shocked if the final number is anything less than that

I'm willing to wager that there will be some large retention bonus that won't be available to him until at least after year three. If they are guaranteeing $10 million, they aren't giving him $2.5 million in year one to watch him portal to another school once the season ends.

Not sure I trust him but it sounds reasonable compared to what was in that article so it could be. Thing is we'll never know for certain what the number is but we'll have reports on it. So we'll just have to go with whatever is reported once he picks BYU. He'll probably make more in endorsements outside his NIL deal with BYU.

Then there's 0 chance he's even considering taking that NIL deal, that would be an absurd stipulation

What's absurd about what would amount to a competitive amount per year plus an additional lump sum payout if he completes all three years there?
