Visited the in-laws this past week and flew back from San Diego to Boston on Saturday. The airport in SD was a zoo- I had to wait in 3 different lines (it just wasn’t clear where to go, and each line would be the wrong one and take 15-20 minutes to get to end, only to be told I had to go to another line). Yesterday morning, I started with symptoms- chills, heavy cough and congestion, low fever and zero energy. I’m getting Paxlovid now at MD’s. If anyone is traveling, my advice is to wear a mask.

I agree, Covid is no joke. I plan on getting vaccinated along with flu vaccine in October and being over 65 it will be no problem. Based on what is happening at CDC I wonder if people younger including children are going to have challenges getting vaccinated and having the cost covered.

Feel better Conndog. I've only had Covid once and Paxlovid knocked it out of me in like 2 days. Other than that disgusting taste I had in my mouth while on it, it worked wonders for me. Yeah, I'm pretty sure based on everything I've read, the Covid vaccine now, will be most likely completely out of pocket and I believe I'd need a prescription to get it. I'll definitely be getting the flu shot though.

Good luck with that plan. The mess in the CDC and SecHealth is so bad there may be no Covid guidelines by October. Insurance companies love the dithering.

In before this goes off the rails.

Good luck getting vaccinated when the CDC is now saying it's not required for all but high risk unless you want to pay out of pocket. Going to be a long winter. Hopefully, people stay home when sick.

@Conndog feel better man! I managed to avoid Covid through the initial pandemic and thereafter until a complete jackass decided to show up at a board meeting obviously feverish and very sick. (Newsflash asshat you're not that important and, frankly, not particularly important at all.) Got me and a half dozen other people. The thing that made it utter genius was that the board meeting proceeded a major fundraising event by a few days. By that time, the original offender was down for the count, but the six of us went to the event symptomless, and it basically became a super spreader event. The Covid itself wasn't horrible, but it did dramatically reduce my sense of smell. It's slowly coming back.

Stay home, get some rest. The paxlovid supposedly helped significantly if you started it fast enough.

I had a couple of trips overto Japan during the summer. Towards the end of the second trip I started having a dry cough. Felt like I had a spot on the back of my throat that was dry.
By the time I got back to the states the cough was worse and it was a wetter cough. Went to the ER. Got all tests and it ended up being Bronchitis. Never had bronchitis before. It sucked. I'd cough so hard, I'd almost black out. I was given prednisone and Tessalon Perles (Benzonatate).
It took about three weeks total from start until finish but still had another two weeks of intermittent coughing spells.
I'm getting my flu shot this week since I head to Europe in a few weeks and it seems like Europe is always a few weeks ahead of the US when it comes to this viral infection spreads.

San Diego sucks for figuring out TSA.

Was able to get Paxlovid and started on it- 3 tablets twice daily for 5 days. Had a $20 charge & asked pharmacist if insurance would cover it. She replied that insurance indeed covered most of it- some insurers don’t, and she said the cost is close to $2000!

I just found out that Medicare will cover the antiviral Paxlovid free until the end of December this year for those eligible. Costs out of pocket would be $1400 otherwise.
Maybe it’s me but that cost is insane. Our government needs to step on the neck of these pharmaceutical companies and maybe subsidize them if necessary to make these vital drugs available. People can’t afford food now let alone Paxlovid!

Saw the Covid thread was closed to new replies. Just wanted to say that I've had a cold since Sunday, would've never thought to test myself for Covid before reading that thread. So got a kit and tested a couple hours ago. Yup, got it. So the BY has now become a useful healthcare resource 😅
