First, argue away on if it's a tag sale, garage sale, whatever...

Then, in honor of my wife making me put all our junk out to do one today, what's the coolest thing(s) you've found at one?

When I was back in CT way back when, my dad and I passed one in North Branford area (I think) and a guy was selling a ridiculous amount of sports memorabilia. Entire sets of old baseball and basketball cards, signed balls, but more impressive to me he had a ton of signed 8-1/2x11 baseball pics (authenticated). I picked up a Mickey Mantle and Bob Lemon (I didn't want to be a Sox or Yankees fan living in CT so I chose to be an Indians fan), which still hang up in my basement to this day.

Nothing. As a musician, I always stop hoping someone has something ridiculous - you know, their grandfathers vintage whatever that has been in the closet for 40 years. But nothing ever worthwhile. But then I hear others brag about their incredible finds. So I always look.

Stopped at a tag sale in Ocean City, NJ and spent $5 on like five books of sports cards that if I actually sat down and sorted out would be worth thousands. They threw in a pair of sunglasses that were so terrible I had to have them. I was pretty hammered.

My future wife
So you're saying she was inexpensively had and only moderately used?

I don’t go to tag sales but I lost out on one. It was a yearly thing where the town would pick a day and then many would put out their stuff on that day. A good idea to get more traffic to the town for the items. Anyway, before I even got out there an older co-worker of mine had some of my stuff at her house I thought I could sell. She had sold my collection of sports pennants for $20. She was so nice so I just thanked her. Many older ones were on my wall growing up so not all were in they in great shape but I had among others…The New England Whalers, Hartford Whalers, California Angels, Oakland Raiders (which you could tell was before their first move out). Los Angeles Rams, St Louis Rams, etc. some noted the Stadiums which are all gone now. Three Rivers for instance. Championship pennants. Montreal Expos, Broncos with the old helmet, etc. oh well.

I loved Jarts. And slingshots, BB guns, mini bikes, skateboards, chemistry sets. Necessary toys for a kid back in the day. I wouldn’t trade that Leave it to Beaver & Wonder Years childhood for anything.
My brother and sister used to have ‘model’ rockets that you could light, they’d take off and have a little guy with a parachute come out of it on the way down. Looking back it was basically bottle rockets marketed as a toy for kids.

A super awesome full head Werewolf mask that I incorporated onto a body, for Halloween. Been using it for probably 20 years, people love it. He's on his second body. The latex is starting to go south but I keep patching him up.

Years ago I came upon a house in NJ where the people owned a local neighborhood bar they closed down. All of the stuff made by the beer companies was out on the lawn and I got them for a song. Never will happen again.

I found my dad is clinically insane.
He held a garage sale and was asking crazy prices for stuff he was selling which was mostly broken or had gone out of style 20 years early.

For example: A lady offered him 50 cents for a broken lamp and he countered with $15. The price he put on the tag was $18. It was a cracked glass jar filled with beans and support and socket for a light bulb. The shade was brown and stained. My friend actually asked me if my dad had lost his mind.

I have found many cheap old guitars over the years. Mainly old Japanese electric guitars by companies like Teisco and related brands. Some of them are pretty cool. Also a couple of cheap acoustics, a Kay and a Harmony. Found a REALLY nice mandolin case for $5 at a flea market. Seller had no idea what it was.

I don't do tag sales. But we've accumulated a number of things from store fixture sales. Which is why we have a mannequin.
