Two items here.
1st the list of Season/Tourney champs & the likely WNIT Auto bid.

Blue shade = Game today
Red shade = Game tmow
Bold = Listed on WNIT side as auto bid
the non-bolded is just my speculation.

Second, who gets the #16 seeds?

  • The MEAC is not only the lowest RPI conference but the #1 seed wont win it. That almost guarantees that the Bethune (RPI 208)/Norfolk (250) winner gets the #64 spot and a trip to Waco.
  • But wait! A win by UTRGV (214) in WAC would probably send them 400 miles north to Baylor.
  • St Francis PA (194) will finish at just .500 with a win in the NEC title. That puts them in contention for #64, but they'd probably be sent to So Bend. Even if Robert Morris (177) wins, they're still likely a 16.
  • Southern (152) & Mercer (134) are in contention as well

How many "Bid Stealing" potential games tomorrow, that could have an impact on Power 5 "Bubble" teams?

16s
  • Bethune-Cookman
  • NEC Champ (RMU/St Fran)
  • Southland Champ (Abilene C/TAM-CC)
  • Southern
15s
  • New Mexico St
  • Portland St
  • Mercer
  • Radford (if win)
Campbell & Liberty would break in here if they get upset wins

Some predictions:
  1. Southern to Starkville.
  2. Portland State to Eugene.
  3. Towson to College Park MD.
  4. TAM-CC (if they win) to Waco.
  5. Two out of Quinnipiac/Fordham/Bucknell/Princeton/Penn/Harvard to Syracuse.

my picks;

16s
  • Bethune-Cookman @Uconn
  • NEC Champ (RMU/St Fran) @ND
  • Southland Champ (Abilene C/TAM-CC) @Bay
  • Southern @Lou
15s
  • New Mexico St @ Stanford
  • Portland St @ Oregon
  • Mercer @ Miss St
  • Radford (if win) @ Iowa
14s
  • Towson @ Maryland
  • Fordham @ NC St
  • UC Davis @ Oregon St <- could see them flipping with NMSU
  • UALR @ Miami

Georgia's coach has definitively said they're declining the WNIT bid.
I'm pretty sure Georgia Tech has done so as well.

Thx on GA. Corrected. So both Utah & Georgia are declining their autobids.
Still have not seen anything formal from GT.

Good work.
I think Radford will be the 14 seed at NC State, and UC Davis will be the 15 seed at Stanford.

Radford has some decent wins in the non conference schedule..... by Big South standards. They beat VCU, UVA, Temple, played VPI tight.... and lost to NC State by 17. They have more front court size than most low mid majors.

The article is very unclear as to whether the statement comes from Simons or from the writer.

Oops I missed that they already played NC State. In that case they probably won’t be sent there for the first round.

Im pretty sure Elon and State played in the regular season last year..... and they sent Elon back to Raleigh for the first round.
