@KevinRDuffy: UConn's conference signs long-term college basketball deal with CBS. Will go through 2019-20 season
@DaveBorges: Soon-to-be-renamed Big East signs TV deal with CBS through 2019-20. #uconn

Is this in addition to the ESPN deal?

Without meaning to, the OP just came up with the perfect name for this league. I'll actually be disappointed if we're not playing in "Conference TBD" next season.

With Mike Aresco coming from CBS Sports, this should come as no surprise. He's got tons of connections given his former position with them. Definitely a big positive for the league.
Seeing as how Aresco is a terrible duck*ing commissioner, I'm surprised anytime he does something remotely positive.

We actually could be on to something here. Our league could be called the Transcontinental Basketball Association, or TBA.

Of course, the league is more driven by football so we'd have to maybe call it the World Twelve of Football, instead.

so if my understanding is correct its up to 12 appearances per year(1 conf game =2 appearances) and they will be on the CBS broadcast network and not the cable channel that nobody watches. if true that is pretty good.

Since half the games will be out of conference, expect UConn's OOC schedule to rapidly skyrocket. This means UConn will likely start hosting at least two top teams a year. Other teams have the bonus of playing Uconn on national TV.

This is a much bigger deal than is being discussed on the Boneyard right now.

This is coming from Dan Wolken on twitter, who is a Memphis fanboy, haven't been able to find anything else on the net that confirms this in writing besides similar press releases that the Courant posted.

SNY carried a multitude of games.. How many will CBS carry 3???? If it is CBS sports that is great. I don't get that channel

Do you think this would go into effect for next year?

These are national network appearances. 6 conference games, like UConn-Memphis, UConn-Cincy, Cincy-Memphis, Memphis-Temple, and then 6 OOC games, like UConn-Washington, Memphis-Tennessee, etc.

The thing is, UConn can now sell a weekend game on CBS Network to any prospective schools it wants to play OOC, and those schools have good reason to sign on.

The only problem is that UConn's schedule will be pretty tough, because in order to have 2 top teams travel to UConn each year, you're going to need to schedule 4 home and homes every year. That's 4 games against top teams OOC plus a holiday tournament.

Thank God for Mike Aresco. There was never a CBS contract before he arrived.

Next time you want a good laugh just remember his rake is half of UConn's take from the TV contract. Anyone want to argue he's half as valuable to this league as UConn?

Before you get too excited remember CBS does plenty of regional coverage so you better have a damn good matchup if you think you are getting a national game.

New Big East bkb deal with CBS worth $3 million per year.

>>The soon-to-be renamed Big East will collect $3 million per year from CBS for the network to televise up to 12 games beginning in 2014, according to industry sources. The seven-year deal in basketball will total $21 million to $22 million, and comes after the announcement of a $126 million contract with ESPN to televise football for the new league. Both deals are for seven years.<<

"ESPN.com reported there is an out clause in the football deal for the network if the league loses two members. It is not known if the same clause exists with CBS" ---- Anyone else think it's weird that a CBS reporter writes that sentence in an article?
