conference names

I wonder if anyone here knows how the catholic schools got to keep the big east name. I would imagine if they call
it quit, they should forgo the conference name.

Another interesting thing, Big 12 has 10 teams and Big Ten has 12 teams. When will they trade names?

The new "Big East" bought the name from the old conference.
