Conference Champ Games

.-.
You’re a lawyer. I just find it hilarious that the power conferences wrote “top 5 ranked conference champions, wink!” And didn’t consider one of their own wouldn’t be among the top 5.
That was the whole point. The number 5 was chosen to, on paper, not lock in the P-4 champions, assuming in reality it would lock them in. It was supposed to leave open the possibility of the G-5 champions being on equal footing when everyone knw they weren’t.

so it all comes down to a couple of games today
puke vs UVA (-4)
BYU vs Tex Tech (-12.5)

11 - 58.8% ND
12 - 55.0% UVA
13 - 49.7% JMU
14 - 33.6% BYU
15 - 11.3% Miami

JMU - Not bad for a program which just ascended from FCS in 2022

I'm seeing this with the ACC having nearly a 50:50 chance to make the CFP, assuming Virginia wins their conference game against Puke. That there is no guarantee that an ACC team will make it at all...reminds me of a Dokken song "Inside Looking Out" where the ACC is a sick child looking outside seeing all the healthy teams playing outside while they are left to whimper inside. Almost apropos that the song comes from their Dysfunctional album, which succinctly captures the state of the ACC...dysfunctional.

UVA would be about 50/50 right now before the game today. If UVA wins, it's in. If UVA loses, it's out and JMU is in.

I heard Dan Patrick speculating yesterday that the conferences are going to drop championship games as they are more detrimental in this era with multiple playoff participants.

Duke will have a really tough day today. You think the instant replay we got against Syracuse was cute?

Yeah
One idea floated last year was the SEC gets 4 auto bids. The top 2 get in and then on championship Saturday there are 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 games to get the last 2 spots.

Don’t love it but probably inevitable.

Wow….Duke with a 4th and 2 on UVA 6 and looked a lot like they got UVA to jump and it pulled a lineman off. Called false start. Second look was close but man….those refs were told the mission.

Indiana might actually be a favorite to win the NC after this came. They're the only team to lead against OSU on the second half this season

So Alabama wouldn't be shown to be a fraud until the actual CFB?

I know it sounds crazy but if Duke were to win and get in the playoff they look like they could possibly win a game. But they haven't won yet and probably won't get in.

Texas Tech might be a dark horse in the playoffs.
There's a prognosticator who noted that the CFB winner (and maybe both finalists) for each of the past ten years scored more than 200 pts than they allowed. Only four teams this year meet that criterion - tOSU, IU, Oregon, and Texas Tech.

I'm bandwagoning it and rooting for Indiana
