NO! I an not doing this to justify SCar being No.1,. I would vote for UCLA ( and the committee would too based on head to head if both run the table, )

You might want to take another look at Massey. UConn is currently number four in Massey not number nine. The offense is rated ninth, but the overall rating is four..

Thanks for pulling this together, @visitingcock !

May I ask which number you're using for Massey? The overall strength rating? I'm sure I'm looking at the wrong thing, but at the link I've been following, it looks like UCLA's RAT is 2 and UConn's is 4.

Y'all are right. Not sure what I pulled the Massey ratings from at 5:30 am.

So my thought is this. The polls (both AP and coaches) are a combination of win- loss records, and an eye test as to which teams are the best. Massey and the net are straight up mathematical models. I think they’re lacking in that they don’t take momentum into account as much as they should. Notre Dame is being unfairly penalized for their early losses. I think at the end of the year, the seeding will be based on ‘What did you do during the season‘ but with a heavy factor of ‘what have you done lately’. If I had to guess, as of today, I would say the three best teams are South Carolina, Notre Dame and UCLA. I think that is going to hold out for the rest of the season. I’ve seen USC, Texas, LSU, and UConn all play, and I would put USC and UConn ahead of LSU and Texas, but that’s just a guess. I’d be very surprised if the National Champion came out of anyone other than these 7 teams though.
