Committee top 16 reveal tonight!

I won’t be surprised if UCLA ends up at 1, though I don’t expect it.
I also wouldn’t mind it. Think it’d be good extra motivation for the team.,

Yeah, that was extremely controversial too. I thought that committee did a terrible job across the board lol.

Other surprises from the reveal were Maryland and Duke. And if I am being honest… Texas. Just like they said on their reaction show. Texas has a better resume than Vanderbilt.

Yes but analysts knew the committee always had that h2h card between ND and MIA if they wanted to play that, which they did.

Right now there’s not going to be a h2h so unless UConn is in very tight games the rest of the way in reg and Be tournament I can’t see UConn getting pushed out of the #1 overall. So eye test of Poe play against BE plus obvious better resume from UCLA if they win out.
 
Whoa! Congrats to Vandy Michigan a Louisville.

And if all goes ‘chalk’ UConn’s path to the NC passes through SC and UCLA again, though in a different order. And maybe even OU and LSU too.

The following factors probably played a prominent deciding throughline through the first 8 seeds of the reveal.
  • Signal Wins/ Losses (Competitive Wins/ Losses, Non-Competitive Losses/ Dominant Wins) &1;
  • Common Opponents; &2
  • Head-to-head outcomes. &3
&1 Michigan (NET = 6) had 3 competitive losses: UConn (1 | N) (L 69-72), UCLA (2 | H) (L 66-69), Vanderbilt (7 | N) (L 69-72); they outweighed its non-competitive Q1 loss: Washington (30, A) (L 52-64);
  • Similar analyses for Louisville (8) [&2 UConn as a common opponent with Michigan seems to be a tie-breaker], Texas (3) [&3 with Vanderbilt], LSU (5) [&3 with Texas], UCLA (2) [&2 with UConn here], South Carolina (4).
The “Quad 1 Quota” Theory peddled by some doesn’t seem to have much currency with the Committee, at least with differentiating the Top 8.

Just put them in the same quadrant , best 2nd seed against lowest 1st seed … it will

TCU is overrated .. it will drop out of the top 16 soon enough.
 
One of the significant advantages of being the #1 overall seed is having #8 as the probable obstacle to the Final Four instead of say #5 if we were the last #1 seed instead. Halfway thru the season that looked like a pretty significant advantage because it looked like a big 5 with LSU #5, and a drop off after that.

Now I don't know what I am hoping for among the 2 seeds. I still don't want to face LSU in the Elite Eight, but now they are #8. I don't want to see Texas either, and how could I root for Michigan if they were the opponent that played us the best? I guess Louisville would be the lessor of those evils, but they gave us a pretty good game and have gotten better as the season went on.

I still think the top conference tournaments could result in significant changes in the 2 seeds. LSU and Texas could move back ahead of Vanderbilt, Ohio State or Iowa could leap over Michigan, and maybe Duke could pass Louisville. Those tournaments will be very interesting and the final seeding on the 2 and 3 line is totally up in the air until those tournaments are finished, but I will be particularly interested in who ultimately winds up #8 as a likely Elite Eight opponent for us.

The one thing that is apparent is that the SEC is brutal. During the last few games of the regular season as well as the conference tournament, there will definitely be some surprises which will significantly impact seeding for the NCAA tournament.

I’m not sure that I like this bracket. It looks like UConn has the hardest path. There are six teams from the Big Ten and SEC; ACC with two; Big 12 and Big East with one each. Is Maryland a Top 16 team? Are you surprised that the Big 12 only has one? There are still games to be played. These will change.

I agree with you that Texas should be ahead of Vanderbilt and Maryland was a surprise, they don't deserve to be that high. But I think Duke is exactly in the spot they should be.
