Yeah, the new bracketology was very favorable for South Carolina. An extremely easy path to the final four.Don’t look now, but they have Iowa as their number 2! Hard to imagine a better draw than that!

Isn't this something the Selection Committee does? If they do, then an algorithm can be created. They are not. For one, while you can rank each category, how do you combine them? And there are non-tangible criteria. Like eye test. Like injuries.
Don't panic yet.I'm not sure how the selection committee works, and don't care to know, but maybe they are taking into account that UConn has played Iowa and SoCar has played LSU (and could play again)?
bracketology and actual seeding are two different things. There are two regular season games and one to three conference tournament games remaining for almost-all of these teams. Have any of these bracketologies ever been the same three weeks in a row?Yeah, the new bracketology was very favorable for South Carolina. An extremely easy path to the final four.
Does what # 1 seed Uconn gets really make a difference? Whether they are the first 1 seed or the 4th 1 seed....
If I remember correctly, Uconn was a 2 seed last year in Spokane.
I believe the end result was Uconn winning the National Championship.
No matter how you slice it and dice it, the 3 or 4 best teams will have to beat each other anyway sooner or later...
The Big 10 is getting what seems like grade inflation, but the proof will show in March.I thought we, as the top seed, got the weakest #2? Is that not right?
Imagine my surprise when I see LSU in our bracket and Iowa in South Carolina’s bracket! In what universe is Iowa better than LSU?
I think you’d rather play the least number of teams that have the highest chance of beating you if your goal is a title, but overall it’s rich people problems.Does what # 1 seed Uconn gets really make a difference? Whether they are the first 1 seed or the 4th 1 seed....

I think they should do the selection the way my fantasy NBA league does - Top seeded team gets to pick their opponent and then just go down the list...2-seed picks then 3 and so on.That's how it was done using the traditional S-curve in both men's and women's brackets. Women changed shortly after Big East members UConn and Rutgers faced off for the fourth time (I think) in a season culminating in an Elite 8 matchup as the 1/2 seeds in their region.
Combining different criteria is what each committee member does. Not the committee. Each member decides how much to weigh each individual criterion, including the eye test. Then each member votes, then the votes are tallied to come up with the ratings. So your algorithm would need to somehow get inside of each member's head and decide how that member evaluates each of the (ballpark) 16 criteria. Why not have the person vote rather than try to develop an algorithm that gets inside that person's head to simulate that person's vote? And how are you going to develop an algorithm for each person's eye-test evaluation of each team?Isn't this (combining different criteria) something the Selection Committee does? If they do, then an algorithm can be created.
And if you went back to my previous posts in this thread, I was posting my opinion as a result of another post concerning absolute rankings. To quote it "The teams are supposed to be ranked absolutely."
You do understand the ramifications of being number one. UCLA and SC would have to play each other before UConn. We would only have to play one of them.I won’t be surprised if UCLA ends up at 1, though I don’t expect it.
I also wouldn’t mind it. Think it’d be good extra motivation for the team.,
Yes I have more recent post somewhere where I note I'd rather be overall #1 and not have to face both of them. You do understand the ramifications of being number one. UCLA and SC would have to play each other before UConn. We would only have to play one of them.
It’s not really a question for UConn. Everyone assumes that if they make it to the FF, they’ll play someone who’s very good. So in the past 16 seasons UConn has made it to the FF on 15 occasions. The exception was 2023. UConn lost in the Sweet 16 to tOSU when Paige was injured. I don’t recall being particularly concerned with the Buckeyes prior to that game. But without Paige UConn struggled uncharacteristically trying to break tOSU’s full court press.I would say it does matter more often than not. What about recent seasons prior to last year when UConn didn't win the title? Wouldn't you have hoped for different opponents (seeds) than the ones who ended up knocking the Huskies out of the tourney?
This year, it probably doesn't matter as UConn will most likely get an SEC and B1G team as its 2/3 seeds.
YesCan someone clarify what the final four matchups would be? Wouldn’t the 2 vs 3 and 1 vs 4 be the matchups?

Assuming that UConn, UCLA, SC & TX all make it to the FF, and I would also throw in LSU, there are no easy matchups. If someone like Vandy or anyone else from the SEC, Big 10, ACC or Big 12 make it into the FF, then they would be the preferred team to face. That is the biggest advantage; if the seeds hold, the #1 overall would play the #4 overall in the Final Four semi's instead of the #2 or #3 overall seed. This post-season, if the Top 4 seeds are 1-UConn, 2-UCLA, 3-South Carolina and 4-Texas (could be Vandy) and all advance, then UConn would face off against Texas, the team who beat both UCLA and South Carolin in consecutive days in Las Vegas in November 🤣
It's kind of like pick your poison as to which of the other #1 seeds UConn fans would prefer to meet in the national semi-finals -- UCLA's size; South Carolina's athleticism; Texas' defense. I do think UCLA and South Carolina have been more consistent than Texas and Vandy in February.
If current from holds UConn and UCLA likely to get LSU and Vandy as their #2 seed. The draw will attempt where possible to avoid SEC v SEC in the round of 8.
That would leave SC and TX to deal with say Michigan and Louisville.
But still plenty of action left to go.
It is more than just not having to play both teams. It is also about them playing each other and having to expend a lot of energy to advance.
I am sorry, but the Texas team that beat UCLA and South Carolina early in the year is not the same team I’ve watched over the last seven or eight games. They lost the Vandy and beat Tennessee by two. At this point right now UConn, UCLA, and South Carolina are playing the best basketball in the country. I much prefer that SC and UCLA play each other, and I don’t care who the other number one team is.That is the biggest advantage; if the seeds hold, the #1 overall would play the #4 overall in the Final Four semi's instead of the #2 or #3 overall seed. I do think UCLA and South Carolina have been more consistent than Texas and Vandy in February.

In my estimation, if this were the actual brackets, UConn would have the hardest bracket to get thru but like last year beat em all!!!!Whoa! Congrats to Vandy Michigan a Louisville.
And if all goes ‘chalk’ UConn’s path to the NC passes through SC and UCLA again, though in a different order. And maybe even OU and LSU too.
For me, the only real bad performance for Texas was whatever happened at Vandy. Otherwise they've played pretty darn well.I agree with who has played better in February, and I said as much. I have no problem with Texas being seeded lower than those two teams; all three teams have gained some players back from injuries or an unexpected international mid--season enrollee since those games in November.
It's easy to pick one or two games to try and make a point. Texas also beat Top 8 LSU by 13 points prior to the Vandy and Tennessee road games you listed. "Over those last seven or eight games" Texas also beat Top 15-20 Kentucky and Oklahoma who defeated South Carolina.
As fans, we will have different preferences as to who we want to be paired with in our part of the bracket. For me, if Texas absolutely has to match up with UConn, I'd rather it be in the Elite 8 in Fort Worth, TX.
