Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

For what it's worth, i asked Gemini AI who would be the best candidate to get the head football coaching job at UConn based on Communication/PR skills, Recruiting and development, Raising funds/NIL, and Northeast ties. In all catagories one name was rated the best or tied for the best: Tony Reno.

If we got Reno and could keep Sammis, does the BY think that would be a home run? Does keeping Sammis and making him head coach make the most sense if all the other top candidates (including Reno) insist on full control of the offense?

What would make me nervous about any FCS (and particularly an Ivy League) coach is the level of experience in recruiting from the Portal and dealing with NIL. The Ivy's don't have nearly the volume of that, that will be necessary to be competitive against next year's schedule. It can certainly work, but there would be questions until they actually proved they could or couldn't do it. That makes me lean more towards a former FBS head coach, a major conference assistant or even NFL guys, who've more experience in melding a team that changes year to year.

Ultimately anyone is going to need help in the GM/Player personnel space (especially given Mora is expected to take the incumbent at UConn with him).

Difference is Neag went to UConn. Steve Cohen has no relationship to UConn except for having a residence in CT.
 
The new Pac 12 was awful this year. And, it is only 8 schools! That sounds stable. If you look at Sagarin, the new Pac 12 had an average ranking of 110 with a high of 58 and a low of 148. CSU was 141. I really don't see how the new Pac 12 is better than the AAC or Sun Belt, although Boise St. has shown they can be the best G5. The new Pac 12, according to the Sagarins, was on average 10 points better than the Ivy League and 14 points worse than the Big 12.

In the past 10 years, the new Pac 12 had 1 school with the highest G5 ranking which was Boise St. in 2024.
 
Came up on my feed. The article is behind a pay wall but it mentions something about Clay Millen's dad, Hugh Millen, talking to Mora. Clay Millen played at Nevada, Colorado State, and is now on the bench at Florida. Clay's brother Cale Millen played at UConn for Mora.

Part of the appeal for Mora is probably the weak schedule he will face. He has a reasonable path to the playoff now.

I agree about reaching the ceiling with Mora but I'm still curious. A path to the CFP seems to be very high on his list. I think it'll be interesting to observe and see if he can actually lift CSU to that level. I still think the American will have a better shot, or a Washington State or SDSU. Maybe CSU will just be lucky enough to get to a bowl game within the next 5 years. 😎

They only have a 70 yard indoor practice area. Millen was one of the worst QBs in NFL history too.

Cole Millen was a waste of scholarship. All he did was come out for trick plays. He couldn't even function as a QB and was behind High School age Zion Turner.

MIllen sounds like another ignorant clown. "It's the type of job you have to stand on the sidelines to realize how bad it is." Lmao. Yeah I'm sure our stadium for the Duke and Air Force games had a really boring atmosphere. Mora will enjoy coaching in front of nobody in Fort Collins so much more.

I am also so tired of hearing people trash our facilities and call theirs better. It just isn't the case, 90+% of the time people make the claim. Our facilities are as good or better than the majority of FBS. If they're worse it's marginally worse and not worth noting. It's like someone made the claim when we were in our down years, and it stuck just because we were so bad back then people assumed it must be true.

If you trust the article, it does sound like Mora left because he would have access to the playoff there if his team performs.
