Yup, heckuva lot closer than Storrs and Bradley to elderly parents in Palm Desert (SDSU), brothers in Seattle and Bend, wife’s relatives, Sun Valley house and friends, etc.

Which means that it is indeed a head scratcher and that we are missing something.

Yep, looks like UConn had 2MM. and those numbers are AD wide?. Didnt see how things were broken down and included other things like rentals and such. Jim dd you notice the first set of line items? facilities, debt service and equipment was 25k and UConn was 11k. high percentage of their expenses.

With a day to reflect, I truly think this was truly a bad move for Mora. Seriously the whole country had just started taking about UConn football.

I’ve got buddies of mine SEC fans that all the sudden were texting me about UConn football.

We were in the national discussion.

And instead of leveraging that to create a lasting legacy, he leaves for a lateral position and gives up.

It has the perfume of giving up all over it versus looking for new challenges or a much better opportunity.

This next hire will be as significant as when we brought on Dan Hurley.

I would hit up donors - the Gold Coast of CT - and look for big time donations and go big or go home.

And we have to move relatively quickly.

I wouldn't waste brain cells on it. He left he's gonna be 65. I really think he thought they would be in a P5 conference by now and they seemingly almost were. Maybe he believes he can coach a G6 into the CFP by winning that conference.

Bothers me some that after all the brotherhood stuff, complaining about tampering, and talking about loyalty he bolts before coaching these guys for that potential 10th win which is huge for the school and program but whatever. He did a great job here and left to finish his career closer to home. This hire will tell us a lot about what this job is today versus when we hired Mora.

We don’t need Mora to win our bowl game. We need Sammis and Brock to game plan and get the players to actually play in the game. Jim Mora is a program builder. He is not a football czar. It was pretty obvious in losing 3 OT games after leading in all of them in the 4th quarter. He’s a defense guy and yet, that is our weakness. Sammis is the best actual football coach on the staff and it is his unit that will win the game for us.

If the guys all play, we can win.

When you say Gold Coast, it has always made me wonder….i wonder if we could get Steve Cohen invested in UConn athletics. He went to U Penn, so no real major sports investments to happen there, dude is worth $23B and isn’t afraid to spend. Lives in CT, why not support the flagship university?

Bowl games are about attitude. If UConn can get fired up and want it more, they will win like they did against South Carolina and UNC. Mora left while on top. He wasn’t likely to duplicate this last season.

Do you think the GOLD COAST residents care about Connecticut? I'll answer this, I very much doubt it. Those people think they are separate from the state. They don't care about Mansfield or even Hartford. If the $$ goes to them fine but they don't want anything to do with the state.

Strongly disagree. He's getting closer to his home, and he's getting a semblance of stability. We can't even schedule well with all the problems within conference schedules and expansions. It's the beginning of a new conference, and he'll have the same challenges and opportunities he started with here.

I do agree next year will be a mess. We lose way too much to replace. We'll need a few geniuses for portal work and recruiting.
 
We should try to keep Sammis. But if this is true Jim will probably want him at CSU.

Uncle Ned, make it happen! Steve needs to redirect a bit away from the Mets anyway and he also needs to avoid the tax man by making donations to the flagship.
 
Interesting to me how quickly this occurred. After Air Force JM was talking about how hard it is to prepare for and defend against service academy offenses. And hoping we don't play another soon. He also had mentioned getting to 10 wins I believe. I know some players mentioned that. So did CSU contact him first or did he call them? No statement from him really does not sit right with me.

i'm a little bit bipolar on this lol I kind of agree with you but at the same time and first posted comments like yours, but even as little as a month ago, he was saying as he was not looking for anything and he was happy here. So this is all scuttle butt, but I hear where your coming from.

The focus has to be on the future we agree!
 
I agree that the move is largely a lateral one in terms of prestige , but the lack of an on-campus stadium here is a big negative compared to CSU. I understand Miami and UCLA do the same, but they have a rich history that we lack. The biggest issue is not the next coach, it’s securing a on campus stadium while Lamont is still the governor.

I don't know the rent. What do we average 30,000 fans? Is it really the stadium? Now if you wanna talk to Umass, that place is literally a field that would be embarrassing for a high school program lol they need to invest in facilities but I think we've got other problems but I like the idea of a campus stadium, especially after visiting BC that was a great experience.
