Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

Fiery hot take: If I’m AD David Benedict, I’m throwing as much as I can to secure a good future for football next season. The margin for error with UConn football is at 0, and we cannot afford to make a lame hire that will throw us back into the basement. There’s simply no time or redemption for that.

And if that conflicts a bit with basketball for one season, I’ll take it as long as Geno and Hurley don’t outright suffer, I know they’ll be fine and I’m not advocating for any full sacrifices. Just in the short-term, we need to keep football on track NOW.

If Mora is going to leave, I'm fine with it being right now. That gives UConn more time to nail down a replacement and start recruiting. A lot of schools aren't even done with their regular seasons yet, so it's a head start. Sure, it would be nice to win our bowl game, but it's not like we'll be playing for a championship. We're all about the long-term goals right now.

Yet still the overall athletic department is in the third tier.
I am curious, why do you say that? Both hockey teams are doing great. Field hockey, baseball, other sports? I don't think 3rd tier is accurate. FB is clearly 2nd tier, but that fact is almost immaterial.

If nothing else, on our trips to Laramie and Colorado Springs next fall we can turn our backs to Fort Collins and fart in their general direction

I was hoping for one more year of upward trajectory but I supposed it was inevitable. What really sucks is that teams like BC, Syr and others can have bad seasons and have a much easier rise simply because they are in a conference.

Don't be so sure that it can't happen.

So the haunted house finally did it to coach Mora. I guess it was only time lol.

I am disappointed he is leaving, but I understand his love of the great outdoors and the West Coast.

The basketball only crowd is very happy right where they are. Ignorance is bliss. Even one of your congressional representatives feels the same way. I never said AAC or PAC. P4 or nothing.

You’re making up an enemy to justify your position. Every UConn fan knows we need to get into a P4.

Mora's a west coast guy. Maybe he figures CSU is a step closer to a job at Boise State or Wyoming

We need a coach who people respect now as that will accelerate the transition into a P4. Like a Belichick or an NFL coach like Steve Spagnuolo. But we are the Charlie Brown of football programs, and just when things look hopeful, the ball is pulled away

The words sound good but what do they mean? What does "If I’m AD David Benedict, I’m throwing as much as I can to secure a good future for football next season." You mean throwing cash? Where is it coming from? You said you don't want sacrifices from basketball. And the problem is, it can't be short-term.

I think we are giving a little too much credit to DB for the hiring of Jim Mora. Mora initiated the contact with UConn for the head coaching Job. So I guess we need the next head coach to reach out to DB again.
