Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

UConn's AD should be fired. Period. Why are we not in a Power conference by now, with all the success of UConn's basketball, baseball, and recently football teams?? We should be in the ACC by now. UConn can't survive for long without Conference money. Anyone could see this coming for the last several years. This is turning into a disaster for all UConn stakeholders involved.
 
Have to think this is about moving back closer to his roots on the west coast to a nice area in and around the mountains …. whether that was driven by him or his wife or family.

Otherwise this doesn’t make a lot of sense.
 
Wow, didn't see that coming. People talked about him leaving for a legit program in a power conference and I thought he would have loyalty and finish what he started here. Leaving for Colorado State of all places and doing it before the bowl game makes me think a bit differently about the man.

I knew after the last B12 debacle, but this is the blaring alarm sign that we’re never getting the power conference invite. He wouldn’t leave if it was on the horizon, this program is officially on the clock.

Chesney made about 800k including bonuses. AD Benedict should offer him what he would have offered Mora. I am sure there would be James Madison players that would follow him to UConn. If Chesney is holding out for a P4 job then they should consider the North Dakota St coach , but he did sign 5-year contract for 330k annually so I don't know how that can be finagled. UConn has to find a coach that is a program builder and knows how to build a successful program whether it's an eager P4 coach that got canned or G5 or FCS coach that knows how to do this with limited resources.
UConn has to keep the momentum going. I would hate to see this program fall back into the abyss.
 
I don’t think he has an extra info on our power conference prospects. He probably wants to be closer to home and jumped at the first opportunity; CSU has similar standards to us in that him restoring the program would make him a hero but also highlights the question, why leave then?

Anyways, it’s a setback and a red flag on staying independent, but not directly linked to Big 12/ACC prospects. Just make the right hire from here

We couldn’t put a big enough offer on the table to keep him from leaving for a non power conference school. The implications here are very obvious.

I’m not convinced the state powers care that much about this program, if we go back to losing seasons quickly, I’m afraid of what could happen. This wasn’t the moment to be cheap if you really believe a power conference invite could happen in the future.

Surprised about Colorado State. But coaches would like to be in new jobs prior to thanksgiving for high school and portal recruiting.

Chesney would be an upgrade. Unfortunately, I cannot see him coming to UConn given the P4 opportunities Chesney has right now.

Yeah no way to spin this if this is true. Only thing I can think of Jim really wanted to go back west.
 
What really sucks if the news is true is Jim will take players with him to Colorado State. Happens now every time a coach leaves for a new job given the transfer portal.

He gone and it has everything to do with location and the ability to compete for a championship. Nothing more, nothing less.
 
Puts him closer to Sun Valley - in the Rocky Mountains…in a medium expectations environment. Makes sense for a mid-60’s coach, but not the best look for us.

This sucks. I suppose it’s better to know now and have more time than less to do a search. But this really stings. CSU is so random and middling I honestly thought the story was fake when I saw it on Facebook, until I came here.

I didn't realize it until looking it up just now, but Colorado State has been pretty bad for a while. Last year was their only bowl appearance since 2017. I guess the Pac-12 will be a little better than the current Mountain West?

I will say that I hope he stays for the bowl game. It'll feel a little worse if he leaves us high and dry to cap off our best back-to-back seasons in almost 20 years.

Fort Collins is pretty flat, more a Plains state kind of feel. The nearest ski resort is 1 1/2 hours away.
 
Sadly espn says he is "expected". AD has to pull something out of his....as a last minute counter offer to maybe get him to change his mind. I figure regardless of what happens it's 100% decided and done in under a week.
 
My guess (if the story is accurate) is that he believes it will be easier to get the necessary financial support at CSU (the statement did mention a favorable financial situation) than here.

This is where we need to get a bit more competitive. Once we do this, things will get a whole lot easier.

Sorry but that's way too harsh. Sad but not surprised he's leaving, but somewhat surprised it's CSU. He probably didn't get an offer from Cal or Stanford. The new Pac 12 will be the best G6 conference. Mora's a west coast guy and this gets him closer to home. It may be his last move, and with the players we lose and our schedule next year he may not have had the same options next year.
I'll thank him for bringing the program out of the abyss and wish him well. I don't think that AD Dave is shocked that he's leaving and has his list of candidates although Bob Chesney may have P4 offers and probably isn't on it. Hope Dave sticks around. We'll be fine. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I want to wish Coach Mora all the best. He has made me believe again. Turned this program around and built a culture here where athletes will turn down money to stay. He’s a West Coast guy far from home, so I get it.

Dave needs to get this next hire right. Open up the purses and go out and get a winner.

Well when your own state media members start bailing on your press conferences and refuse to vote you in the Top 25 after going 9-3 (18-7 over the last 2 seasons) you could argue he felt as if he had no respect.

It still stings but he wanted to go back out West and compete. And CO State has funding plus family ties. Thats the reality.
 
He showed what is possible - the timing on these things couldn’t be worse. Why are folks allowed to leave before a season just makes college sports unregulated and Wild West due to a complete lack of leadership. Can’t criticize kids when they opt out of games / bowl games when their role model adults do the same.
 
Well this wasn’t what I wanted to wake u too. Like everyone else, expected him to leave and go wedt at some point - but CSU is a bad look.

The positive is he’s shown it CAN happen here with the right coach/investment. A P5 invite wouldn’t be based off any coach, esp a mid-60s one. DB needs to get a decent name in here with experience.

Worried about our recruits bailing.
