College Soccer is pointless

Biggest sport in the World. I live outside the US most of the year. I have learned to love the sport. I was visiting my wife’s family in Ireland and her cousin was a top notch player in Ireland. I said to him oh you play soccer. He looked at me funny. He said yes I play football.

But did you know that the sun is bright and gives off heat too?

I mean duh.

We’re talking about the infestation of foreign players often who are 22/23 years old in our college soccer.

At some point there should be a limit on foreign players like pretty much every domestic professional league has.

I have an idea? How about USA players getting better at the sport. We see how good the USA is in soccer with their performance on the World stage.

It’s supposed to be here to support and develop American players. Not 22 year old kids from other countries who have washed out of pro academies.

There is a reason why Soccer Federations around the world limit the amount of foreign signings.

By the way college hockey- division 1 has significant number of foreign players. With the changes occurring on eligibility this percentage is likely to increase.

I don’t know? Why do you care so much that USA players cannot beat out foreign players on a college team? USA universities have many foreign students.

I'm not sure what the Marshall defender #4 Alex Bamford from London was trying to do here. Instead of containing and slowing down Kissel, Bamford does some strange slide with his leg in the air. Maybe he was too tired to defend.

By the way soccer federations in other countries are not associated with universities. My colleagues from other countries do not understand why college sports are so big in the USA. I explain to them it is a free minor league for the NFL and NBA.

We’re the only place dumb enough to tether our athletics to education.

In the case of men’s soccer it took us too long to realize. how badly college soccer hindered our development of professionals.

Our universities recruit a few top students in their respective fields, be it math, music, or sports. That's how we have been at the top, though other countries are catching up.

We (UConn) have our own share of contributors, from Doron Sheffer to Nika/Aaliyah/Dorka, etc. in sports. I'm sure countless non-athlete students are at UConn with scholarships and they are contributing immensely to the university's name, and to our country.

I got a scholarship as an international grad student in late 80s at UConn, my three PhD advisors were from Israel, Canada, and India, all renowned in their fields.

The coaches know the relative talents of players and they try to recruit the best, their jobs depend on it.

I'm a UConn soccer supporter and try to follow the program as close as possible. Recruiting news however is really hard to come by. This kid is 24, so his recruitment may have pre-dated the Gbandi hire, so I'll give him a pass on this one. Having said that we have to start locking up local talent.
