Isn't it the other way around?

"The puppies' water bowls were all knocked over."

"Jalen Adams's mom came to the game yesterday."

You really can go down a rabbit hole with this sort of topic.

I would write it as Jalen Adams' mom - but you would not be wrong either.

Plural possessives confound things further - puppies' is obvious, but say the regular noun is class or mass or albatross or whatever. I would add the 's'...for three reasons.

1) My 9th grade English teacher, Mr. Sorentino, taught it that way.
2) For the most part, I write it as I would say it. E.g. Adams' mom, albatross's wings, etc.

I don't remember the third reason. Jumped out of my head.

If the S is there due to a plural then just add an apostrophe.

If the S is there because the word ends with an S then use an apostrophe + S (as you would normally).

The plural of Adams is Adamses. Enjoy.

Did not see a grammar lesson coming when I opened this thread.

But I don't hate it compared to some of the other tangents we've seen on this board.

I don't even give one.

I usually give one. One per day. Pretty regular actually. Wish I was a morning dumper, instead of an evening guy, but you can't have everything.

The above is a true boneyard segue.

I figure within a decade there will be legislation making it illegal to put an apostrophe after anyone's proper name.
