He banged his head at 4:39, and we scored zero points from the floor thereafter.

The weakness in this roster has been apparent since Day 1: We have only one PG who can consistently get us into our sets and generate looks for everyone else. If Bouk gets hot he can paper it over with his shotmaking, but if he's cold and Cole's not out there, we really, really struggle.

Hopefully Gaffney will get there next year. He's a talented kid, but still more combo guard than PG.

Anyway, I love this team. They fought hard. Creighton's really good. No shame, just a lesson.

EDIT: College basketball has always, always always been a guard's game.

They didn’t score a field goal for over 6 minutes.
I’d say Sanogo abd his 4th foul was the turning point. I believe they were up 4 when that happened.
Sanogo was the difference. Creighton couldn’t hang when he was in there. When he sat, they ate UCONN up in the paint. It was embarrassing.

FYI, not impressed with Bouknight....4-14??? C’mon.

Sorry, but that’s an excuse. This team has played poorly down the stretch of most close games, and the same thing happened tonight. Just too many empty possessions and questionable rotational decisions.

to be honest, i don’t think we can count on gaffney ever getting there and should plan accordingly. he is a combo guard at best, and his lack of true playmaking skills is very pronounced compared to cole or even jackson.

at this point gaffney is kind of a one trick pony. he very casually passes around the perimeter with no probing of the defense, and occasionally puts his head down and bullrushes a drive that half the time has no endgame.

cole and diggins will run point next year. diggins is hopefully the future there.

gaffney is more suited as a reserve sg/combo.

One of those games where everything seemed to be a struggle. Tough to see this after the way we played the last couple of weeks.

Creighton deserves credit for their all around defense especially limiting penetration by Cole and dominating the boards.

I agree it was a major part but not the sole reason. We had some really good looks at the end there and I felt like we let this slip away, ugh I’m pissed

yes and why do we have so many empty possesions?

because nobody creates easy shots for others.

the only person that i have really seen do that is jackson surprisingly, but he has too many other limitations where he can’t play significant minutes.

Really to me it was Bouk missing the front end of a 1-and-1 up 3, which led to the stupid Sonogo foul followed by them burying a 3 in our face. You're talking about three things that totaled up to a minimum 5 points, maybe 10 depending on how long Sonoga stays in.

I would point to Bouk missing the front end of the 1x1 when UConn was up 5. Instead of going up 7, they get their lead cut to 3 when Creighton answered with a score.

If Jackson gets a semblance of a shot the passing lanes will open up for him. I mean he is young, he has to work on everything, but at least 70% of his practice time has to be spent working on shooting.

Cole played the first half. Creighton came back and took the lead. They just outplayed all of our missed shots. They make their free throws, the margin of defeat would be larger

To be fair, we turned many close games into not close games because we played so well down the stretch. Tonight was just a mess

I personally thought sanogo picking up the 4th foul was the bigger turning point.
Combination of Bouk missing front end of 1and1 and Sanogo foul on the board. Had a chance to put some daylight between us. I think we were up 53-48? Stretch it to 7 and Sanogo stays in. Bang we win. Sadly didn’t go that way

I think at the end of the day a very experienced Creighton team did what it had to do and found a way to win by taking full advantage of our mistakes and inexperience at key moments in the game. This was the difference in all 3 games. Maybe Cole getting hurt at the 4 minute market changed the momentum a bit however talent and opportunity wise UCONN had enough to win and they didn't because of some inexperience in key positions. There is really nothing else that explains this team losing to Creighton 3 times based on our talent. Creighton has been in these wars over the last several years. The team will grow from this.

completely agree, just UGH

Hopefully Cole is okay. I hope GTown wins tomorrow. I like Creighton and have nothing against them, but GTown wins that means 4 teams from the Big East in the tourney.
You watched the team in Gray tonight and said “I like these dudes?” Weird

There were some small reasons that contributed too, but this was the big one. End of the day we're making the tournament and I'll expect to win every game

This is not a great Uconn team and we'll be in the Tourney anyway with a 7 seed hopefully. Creighton is better and more experienced.

Outscored 9-3 with no field goals after Cole injury, with haphazard possessions. No way that happens if he's in the game. Best lineup wasn't in at crunch time. That and the Bouk front end made for big problems.

When Cole has 5+ assists in a game we win. Tonight his ball distribution wasn’t there, plain and simple.
