"A top-30 recruit nationally, Cloer included UNC in his top eight earlier this month along with NC State, Indiana, UConn, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, and Louisville. However, after announce his eight finalists, Cloer picked up two new offers — Arkansas and Kentucky. North Carolina was thought of the early favorite for him, but now he appears to be more open."

Mingo:
"The 6-foot-5 point guard plans to visit the Tar Heels. Other schools involved with him include Alabama, UConn, NC State, Baylor, and others. There is quite a ways to go here but Hubert Davis has made him a priority."

Samuels:
"I can see the Tar Heels getting some traction with the high four-star wing. Texas, Georgetown, Alabama, Georgetown, and others are also recruiting him."

Howard:
"...basically every in-state powerhouse and each blue blood is after him. Along with UNC, Howard is considering Texas A&M, Texas, Duke, Houston, Kentucky, UConn, and Tennessee. This recruitment is wide open."

A top-30-ranked player in the 2026 class, sources tell me that heading into visits, they are watching UConn here. Cloer has five official visits set. As things stand, the 6-foot-6 wing will go to NC State (8/29), Florida (9/6), Kentucky (9/17), UNC (10/10), and Alabama (10/18). Speaking with one source recently, they told me that NC State and Florida are trying to make a push in this one as well. Intel would suggest there is still a bit of a way to go to get to the finish line here, so this recruitment will be interesting to continue tracking. Speaking with Cloer, he has not been tied to a commitment timeframe to this point, as he wants to go through the visits. He has told me that he remains open to committing early or late, ‘when it feels right.’ Continue to pay attention to each visit he takes.

We're getting close to September when recruits can take official visits and coaches can make in-home visits to recruits. So the recruiting picture will start getting clearer. On3/Rivals is reporting what they are hearing from sources.

4-star SF Cole Cloer​

Cole Cloer led a Team CP3 team in scoring this summer, 16.0 points while shooting 33.6 percent from three, which made a run to the Elite Eight of Peach Jam. The 6-foot-6 wing has set seven upcoming official visits. Cloer will see NC State (Aug. 29), Florida (Sept. 6), UConn (Sept. 13), Kentucky (Sept. 17), Arkansas (Oct. 4), UNC (Oct. 10), and Alabama (Oct. 18). Speaking with sources around the recruitment, they tell me they are watching UConn and NC State as we start visit season. Cloer is currently Rivals’ No. 52 overall player in the 2026 cycle. One source I spoke with did tell me that they are interested to see how things go with Florida. Continue to watch which campuses he steps foot on and if a commitment timeline emerges.

If I were Cole, here's what I would do.

No-brainer to go to Gainsville to visit the most recent champs come to Storrs and then see what Mark Pope is up to in Lexington, just because.

Verbally commit to UConn in late September, cancel the Arkansas visit, but then check out Chapel Hill, just because it would be fun to be courted there.

Announce commitment to UConn in the hotel room after the UNC visit.

I don't like the feel or timing of the Arkansas visit.
It was added after he announced his final eight and if Cal is involved you know there's money to be made....maybe just enough to buy a visit, but who knows how badly Cal needs to win to keep his image alive and his job.
Maybe enough to buy the player, but the kid's praise for Dan Hurley gives me hope he's smart enough to see through the BS he's going to hear in Fayetteville.

If he's driven by the highest NIL, then he's not a fit for UConn. If he wants to be coached hard, develop into a lottery pick level player, and win championships, then there's only one place for him. :)

Not all that concerned about him making it to Storrs.

If the Third Saturday in October is his kind of thing, then UConn is not the school for him.
