Hard to have a lot of sympathy for the snowbirds living in FL when we haven’t seen the north side of freezing in upstate NY in over a week with another week of frigid weather to come. Yesterday, I braved the cold to take down our Christmas lights and then collapsed on the couch.

I’ve always been something of a contrarian. I used to live in Ponte Vedra Beach outside Jacksonville. But a series of moves north lead me and my wife to retire near Saratoga Springs, NY. I’m not a skier or winter weather person, so it’s difficult to figure out what in the hell I was thinking…..;)

Could reach to the high 40s in southern Florida this week. Their version of a blast of Arctic air. But it's still nice to sit and watch our team without having to bundle up to get there.

You missed the right hand turn in NYC and continued on to I-87N instead of staying on I-95N to Connecticut. Good thing you stopped in Saratoga Springs. Otherwise you might have ended up in Syracuse or Buffalo.

Warm in Connecticut by January standards. Most places in the 20s this morning.
Come on, warm is a stretch. Maybe a high in the mid-20s during the day, low-to-mid teens at night. Wind chills easily in the single digits. I will say not that all unusual for January. We've been colder.

BDL is 4.4 degrees above normal for January so far. That's quite warm relative to average/normal.

I'd take Saratoga Springs over anywhere in Florida.

15 deg here in Quincy, IL but supposed to warm to 22 this afternoon (this is a bit warmer than yesterday). Perfect for skiing on the 6-8 inches of snow around town!

I just came from my local Big Y. Apparently they keep the "garage doors" open year round.

The workers in the produce area were wearing gloves, hats, and insulated coats.

Im not sure what Big Y believes they gain in leaving these garage door entries open when the temp is in single digits, but it's a pretty stupid thing to do.

Here in Austin, Texas, the weather has been cold and crisp, with lows just below freezing. Rain is coming Thursday and Friday, luckily with predicted lows a few degrees above freezing. Even a light freeze with precipitation can be disastrous in our area. Pipes, often just below ground surface, freeze, crack, and burst. Icy tree limbs fall on the tree limbs.Edit: oops! Limbs fall on the power lines!

Cross country skiing I assume. I know there aren't any mountains in central IL. About the highest things around there are the Dickson Indian Mounds.

How are them Blue Devils doing this year?
