Has anyone listened much to Casey Cochran on WTIC? Not sure if it's just me, but every time I listen to him he seems to make a concerted effort to criticize Shirreffs and it's pretty awkward. After the USF game he was asked what he thought UConn needed to improve upon and he just mentioned Shirreffs, which is obviously odd given his 450+ yards of offense and being one of few bright spots

I think he brings insight to the process/team/program that nobody else can... I think being a QB his observations maybe more focused on a position he is well acquainted with as opposed to the skill set of say - a cornerback.

He is a value add to the broadcast.

I think he's been great actually... especially right now where he can add a realtime in the locker room observation/point of view that no other radio voice can abotu this team. He knows those coaches and those player better than anyone.

HUH? How can the NCAA regulate a broadcaster or a high school??

It can probably tell a broadcast affiliate of a member institution that it can't employ anyone, as a broadcaster, who is a high school coach.

Cochran was probably forced to choose between his regular paying job (WTIC) and his volunteer/low-paying job (NLHS).

The only thing I can think of is if the broadcaster is paid by the school, the NCAA wouldn't want a school using the broadcast job as a means of slipping cash to a HS coach.

Their jurisdiction would be ridiculously thin.

I didn't infer that he simply talks about the quarterback too much, but rather that he is unreasonably critical of shirreffs even after good performances. he comes off as bitter when talking about shirreffs IMO, that's all I was stating. But for what it's worth I don't really value his commentary on the whole, I think he's pretty inarticulate...sticks to cliches and has a hard time completing sentences without long pauses or stutters. He's fine for WTIC (anything is better than Joe D) but I guess I expected a kid with Princeton/Harvard offers to be a bit more well spoken.
