The original thread has been locked probably due to its large size so here is the current standings as we go into the NCAA tournament schedule:

Summitt - 1098
Tara - 1094
Geno - 1091
Stevens - 1058
Stringer - 1041
Hatchell - 1028
McGraw - 936

This is correct as of 3/9/20 end of day

Tara will need to reach the Final Four to tie Pat this season. That'll be a tall order. They'll have to go through either Greenville or Dallas.

If Tara gets knocked off in the Regional finals and Geno wins it all they both are tied at 1097. That would make for a great 20-21 season.

Stanford might not be hosting first round games, Santa Clara County has banned gathering of over 1,000 people due to the Caronavirus.

After some hesitation I went to the Final @ Mohegan Sun last night - as I've done since the AAC changeover.

Granted it was a Monday, but my impression is that the overall population at Mohegan was down. Parking, walking around, eating, standing in line for security at the Arena, then attendance once the game started - more empty seats than I recall as the norm.

Scary stuff, at the bathrooms people stopped just to wash their hands - including me. I wore gloves to try to avoid touching stuff and bringing my hands to my face, but would do it anyhow when my eye itched.

Every step I was conscious of other people - taking change from eating, handing my ticket to the ticket scanner, sitting in the stands chatting with other UConn enthusiasts, buying a Tournament Champs hat after the game.

Not really anything you can do and a week from now my guess is it will be worse. Will they allow attendance at Storrs/other sites - maybe, maybe not.

I believe that Pat would still be first and Geno would be second. Don't know who would be third, it wouldn't be Tara.

Tara currently has “only” 942 wins at Stanford. It would take her another five years to pass Pat for second place for most wins at one school.

The final stats leave us with a lot of interesting sub plots:

1) Will Geno catch Tara?
2) Who will catch Pat first?
3) When will CViv retire?
4) Who will coach longer Tara or Geno?
5) How many year does it take until Muffet breaks 1000 wins.
6) Does Mulkey end up owning the most wins record?
(She's at 604 but got there in 20 wins with a .857 win loss record.)

The number of wins each coach has earned is remarkable but the number of losses Geno has (or more correctly, doesn't have) is what amazes me!!!! The number of losses that Pat ended her great career with is outstanding but Geno's, just WOW!!!!

To answer the questions in order:
1. Eventually, YES. winning percentage says Geno will gain 3 games on Tara for each 37 games played. By the end of the 2021 season.
2. Tara. Early OOC offers no challenges for the 4 games Tara needs
3. 3 years ago...oh wait, when she should have retired or when will she?
4. Geno
5. MM gets 1,000 Wins in 2022-23 season
6. No, she's too far behind. She would have to coach 13 more years (until age 70) to catch Geno/Tara/Pat and that's if they stop after 2021.

Similar to Kim Mulkey, Dawn Staley did not start her HC career until later (albeit Dawn was playing professionally, while Kim was assisting top teams). Dawn will be 50 in may and has 477 Wins now. Her current overall win% is .728 but now that she has reached a P5 and new normal, her last 9 years are .840 so using that as a calculation point, she will reach 1,000 wins in 18 years. Think about that for a second, Dawn Staley will require 18 years to get to 1,000 wins. Now, if that doesn't put into perspective how impressive Geno, Tara, Pat are/were, nothing will. Congrats to the truly elite of the sport...

I am not sure if you can guarantee more than an average of 30 wins/season for a decade or longer period. At that number Kim will need 13+ seasons to reach 1000 wins (13x30=390.) Muffet will require 2+ seasons.

With Tara and Geno basically tied, the final determinant for who ends with the most wins will be who retires first - it would take about ten years of coaching to build up a single year's worth of lead for either and I don't see that happening. Similarly, Stevens would need to coach at least a year longer than either Tara or Geno to overtake them, and I do think with more than 95% of her wins being in DIII (she coached three years at a DI school) it is a little strange to list her as a DI coach.
