WCU TRUSTEES MEET REGARDING WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CONTRACT

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina University Board of Trustees met today (Thursday, June 20) in a special called meeting and did not approve an employment contract for Heather Kearney as head women’s basketball coach.

A national search will begin immediately.




Wonder what happens to the assistant coaches that were added to the staff. Head bang

Does anyone know why Kearney left/was forced out from Appalachian State? (She was the AC and left when HC Darcie Vincent was let go—also at a really odd time of the year, in early September 2014: App State women’s basketball coach resigns)

It's rough enough being a mid-major when successful coaches can almost be guaranteed to bolt for a P5 head coaching job. Now you have a WNIT third-round finish and DMJ leaves to become an *assistant* elsewhere.

Heck, in the case of Pepperdine, between practices I'd just walk out of the gym about ten yards with a folding chair, put it down, sit in it and stare at the Pacific Ocean from the bluffs that the campus is perched on.

Pepperdine is one of the most beautiful campuses I've ever been to. Maybe she had a hard time concentrating? Not feeling good about her lot in life? Geesh, I'm sure she has her reasons, but the Syracuse winters vs. that view? Hmmm :cool::rolleyes:

Now, I can't disagree. Attended Rutgers (disappointing) appearance in a Pepperdine Tourney years ago. Beautiful campus. This was (IIRC) when Julie Rousseau was coaching them, they beat us, although I think we beat Florida in the consolation game.

That said - are the resources really at Pepperdine to advance a career? And, of course, she is a "name". So it is probably a very good move for her, career wise.
