While as a Bucknell fan I hope their women's basketball coach, Aaron Roussell loves Lewisburg, PA and stays there forever, after taking a program that went 5-25 four years ago to 28 wins this past year and the NCAA's two of the past three years, predict he will end up with one of the better jobs. Penn State is only an hour up road?

Penn State set to hire Carolyn Kieger as next women's basketball coach

Too bad from my point of view. I like Kieger. Did a nice job at Marquette.

As a Rutgers alum - I don't like Penn State. Not one iota, although, I admit I didn't wish CW any ill will during her time there, I certainly wanted her to be a success - just not too much of one.

I fear Ms. Kieger could elevate Penn State, a school that certainly takes its athletics seriously, far higher than I would wish. Oh, well.

I understand why she's doing it, but it sounded like she was building something really special at Buffalo (not just with Dillard) and I was excited to see where she took it. She seemed really enamored with what Geno did taking a mid-major and making them into a contender, and I thought she was going to try and do the same there.

Here's a 247 (Go Jackets) article that lists some folks they think would be good coaching possibilities for GT, including Felicie Leggett-Jack. Others include Princeton's Courtney Banghart, Kellie Harper (if that gig in Knoxville does not work out), Tina Langley of Rice, Megan Duffy of Miami of Ohio and Niele Ivey, the associate head coach at Notre Dame. Have no idea how concrete this writer's contacts are, but thought it would be interesting to float these names.

Nell Fortner...? Has it ever worked out when a coach returns to the game after a long absence? I can't think of any positive examples. Last coached during the '11-'12 season according to wiki. Her overall coaching record is about as meh as Kelly Harper. Take away one 30-4 season at Auburn and it's really meh.

But to people who dont follow wcbb, it *sounds* good. She'll be there for a few years, and then they'll move on to someone else. Basically a school that doesn't care. They have made the sweet 16 once, ever. And the 2nd round 3 other times. For a school in one of the centers of girls HS basketball ... well, that's all you need to know.

Megan Duffy is now Marquette’s Coach.

Another Positive Step Up for Former ND Point Guard since she started coaching:
- St. John's (worked for Kim Barnes Arico)
- George Washington (recruiting coordinator, guards coach for Jonathan Tsipis)
- Michigan (guards coach for Arico)
- HC at Miami University of Ohio (two consecutive 20-wins seasons in her first -- and only -- two years)

It should be noted that Marquette athletic director Bill Scholl was an administrator at Notre Dame when Duffy was a player so Kelly might've had an easier trip to the front door. Interestingly, ND associate head coach Carol Owens was initially thought of as a prime candidate. Perhaps Scholl's connection to Duffy was key. Or the fact that Duffy is about the same age Kieger was when she took over.

While Marquette is losing a starting lineup of five starters that all scored more than 1,000 points (man, that sounds familiar ), former coach Carolyn Kieger was bringing in a class of 8 prospects, including highly rated guard Shemara Williams from Milwaukee. Williams was apparently upset that Kieger was leaving for Penn State, so Duffy might want to take an Uber over to her house after the press conference.

In any case, great move for Duffy. If she continues to do well, it will give Notre Dame another quality choice for a MM successor (Ivey, Morgan-Cunnigham) when that time comes.
