At the game yesterday one thing I noticed was that for most of the game, Hurley was actually standing on the court floor. If I remember correctly, during a few possessions he was standing almost by the 3pt line. Is this something that is allowed and awarded a tech for or am I being dumb and haven't realized this?
 
It's not allowed but tolerated to a certain extent. In the past it has been a point of emphasis to call these after a warning or two. Guess that's over. Hurley shouldn't invite the easy T, it's not like he can't be seen or heard. Personally, I think it's a show for coaches who'd rather be playing. I could do without it, especially that far out.

I assume if he contacts an official, they will call it.
 
I don’t think the refs care unless you either get in the way or are berating them. If you piss them off, you are opening yourself up to something to be called on.

I’m not a boomer, but I notice it. It seems a little over the top to me. I’m about the same age as Hurley, he knows he’s pushing it. H earned a lot of street cred with the refs in the post season last year. He became a teddy bear.
 
It's noticeable but it seems like more than half of coaches do it nowadays

When the cameras are showing the game flow I barely nitice the coaches.
 
I’d rather have Hurley engaged and standing on the floor encouraging the players rather than sitting.
Ollie sat a lot and it annoyed me greatly.

And it sure looked like he was trying to piss them off. Wish he’d go back to that zen mode.

Next time you watch a Marquette game, watch Shaka. On the floor more than some of his roster is. BE officials dont care at all. As long as it not impeding play
 
As long as he wasn't playing defense, I'm OK

One game last year, on at least a couple of possessions, either Sean Miller or Shaka Smart was playing defense. Giving their team six defenders
 
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a coach T’d up for it, just warnings. There’s nothing about it that comes across as showing up the refs, so I doubt they care that much (and it’s pretty common place). I may be misremembering, but I vaguely remember watching a game many years ago where an opposing player drew a tech on the coach by purposely dribbling into the coach who was out on the court.
 
I don't mind it except at the times he really pushes it to the extreme.

Until we play Nova and Neptune tries to trip our players after talking trash. Then everyone will care

Danny definitely pushes the boundaries on that. I know he's been warned in years prior about it, might have even gotten a T once but I can't recall. What i do know is once conference games start he'll be reigned in by other coaches going to th erefs about it, trying to bust his balls or get in his head.

Not sure many Big East coaches will complain, because half of them do the same thing. Kyle Neptune would have to stop playing defense on the sidelines if he complained

I get Shaka does it too. But Danny already has had beefs with a lot of Big East refs. The folks who think that that wouldn’t play a factor and that the refs would be totally fair and down the middle are perhaps a bit naive.
 
I think its a way for Hurley to assert his presence/power to both the team and refs, particularly the latter without berating those officials.

Speak a little more softly & carry a big stick onto the court if you will.

Right but I’m pretty sure there is some NCAA rule that says if you have a cool name like “Shaka” you can do it.

I still remember that Auburn game where Ollie just sat there smug in his chair while Bruce Pearl who is a lot older was jumping up and down screaming. I was screaming more than Ollie for him to get fired. LOL!
 
This thread has some serious “old man yelling at cloud” vibes to it.
