Lane Kiffin or Steve Sarkisian. Both good coaches and Kiffin has connections.

I dont want someone who just got fired.

Bring in a great assistant/coordinator, or a solid HC from a lower level.

99.9% of coaches started on one of these 2 levels. We aren't gonna shell out 5 million per year to lure Saban away from Bama, so we need to take a risk, instead of getting another retread

imho

To an extent I agree. But I feel like we need a coach who has publicity around him and has proven he can win on the FBS level.

NO

Or to put it better...only if you think 8 wins is our ceiling as a program. I know we can do better

Edsall did a great job of building a foundation (which has been demolished in very little time) which needs to be commended as mny schools have attempted to do this from before I was born (more than 50 years ago) without success.

Where he left us however needs to be viewed as a starting point, a place from where the right effort and commitment from the school, the fan base and the state, can bring us to a level somewhere close to what our more successful programs have achieved. If we view that as the finish line we will at best be a middling football program in a sub-par conference and at worst the poster of mediocrity.

I don't want Edsall back (and I was one of the prior board's apologistas and I don't want some more established program's castoff.

Combined record of 33-19. Has gotten at least 7 wins in each of his years as a coach.

He's been in situations where a lot of talent was readily available. That wouldn't be the case here.

I'd love to see some Nate Silver type of numbers on where the most successful coaches come from. Warde should have an intern crunching the numbers right now.

Of all the coaches on the list, I'd say that only Kirk Ferentz (hot seat) and Garrick McGee (edge of hot seat) would interest me to limited degree. But I agree with those above that said I'd prefer an ambitious coordinator than a head coach retread. Think Charlie Strong type (coordinator buried behind a safe head coach at a good program with a good recruiting reputation).

I'd like a fiery younger guy myself, someone willing to grow with the program who doesn't trigger narcolepsy everytime he talks.

Mario Crystobal's ain't chopped liver.

He's one reject that I would consider. He lost his job at FIU entirely on a miscalculation by their AD, is currently the OL coach at Bama (that in itself is impressive), he is still pretty young (42), a high integrity guy (despite having played at tha U) who wants to be a career HC at one school (like Paterno who he idolized).

He would improve our southern Fla recruiting considerably (this took a huge hit when Richardson left) and with a balanced staff, we could still have a presence (possibly a better presence than we currently have) in other regions we had recruited pretty well (PA, MD, NJ, VA, GA) and perhaps add a place like Ohio to our recruiting grounds.

I am not claiming that he is the answer. I am however claiming that there is someone out there who can be a reasonable (football) facsimile of Jim Calhoun in 1986.

Kiffin??? He gets whacked @ USC and the rebound hire is by UConn? Should he re-hire his dad here too?

You think people are laughing now?

Stick to the basketball board...;)

If he had the right athletes (top tier DL's who can both stop the run and pressure the QB, fast LB's who can also take on blocks and tackle at the point of attack) Monty could do very well as a defensive coordinator (at this point, likely better on college than he would in the NFL). If you could guarantee me the athletes to play in his system will always be on our roster I would have no problem with him running our defense.

Lane on other other hand shouldn't even be towel boy.
