Looking back at the records, from Wikipedia, I noticed that Jim Calhoun didn't win Big East Coach of the Year after 1998...

How in the *(&*#% did that happen? 2004, 2006, 2009 all were 30+ win seasons. 2002 was a 27 win season, and 2008 was one of the better coaching jobs that year. Also, 2004-2006 they won the Big East.

Help un-confuse me.

Voting is done at the end of the regular season - it tends to be given to a coach who's team overachieved, so years like 2004 or 2006 where we were picked No. 1 in the country makes it tough to win the Coach of the Year (unless perhaps you run the table and do something historic). Years like 2002 (strong finish) or 2008 (bounce back year) he would have a good case, but other coaches might have had better cases those years.

There was also probably an opposing coach or two in the league who wouldn't vote for him no matter what.

Congratulations, you've stumbled upon the global conspiracy against UCONN athletics.

Bouquet to the catholic 7's for poking their head above water any given year. "So and so really has {Seton Hall, STJ, PC, BC} looking like they are ready to make some noise in the BE."

Coach K has not won ACC coach of the year since 2000. I presume you think there is a Duke conspiracy too?

JB won 1 since 2000 (somehow he grabbed 1 in '10). Think Izzo only won 1 Big 10 coach of the year since 2000 too.

When you built a powerhouse on top of the conference, winning the conference is not considered a "great" coaching job, it is what is expected.

Coach of the year goes to overachieving, young up and comers.

Should've put a  to indicate my sarcasm.

because he couldn't compete with the likes of Mike Brey (LMFAO)

no, seriously (too damn funny)

2011 was one of my favorite seasons, Brey COY over JC & Ben Hansborough POY over Kemba and then Jimmer Fredette for National POY (he even won the ESPY awarded months after Kemba won the NC)

those awards are jokes, even stuff like Obama winning Nobel Peace Prize having been nominated before his 1st day in office and Michelle Obama being called one of the 100 sexiest women on earth in that same time frame just tells you how much thought goes into this stuff. A man who lived his life and was paid to create war like Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize

my point? the world is full of idiots, and I have no idea how some people get elevated to the position of responsibility they attain. (Hathaway? Pasquloni? John Cahill? Doug Gott-nothing? and the people who get to vote for the awards they get to vote for)

A coach normally does not win Coach of the Year if their teams are good. Coaches for teams exceeding expectations are typically the beneficiary of these types of awards.

The Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 for the first time in 86 years. Buck Showalter (manager of a team that did not even make the playoffs that year) won Manager of the Year over Terry Francona.
