This is a nice short read on Coach K commenting on Hurley as the face of CBB and his love for the Hurley family.

“I think his commitment to the game was part of the reason he stayed. He’s one of the leaders right now for college basketball, maybe the top leader, at least one of the top two or three. You have a responsibility, you know you can’t just win trophies, although those are nice to win. You have to make a commitment to the game. He’s a lifer, his family are lifers, they have a huge commitment to basketball. I love them. I don’t like them, I love them.

There really isn't anyone else in college basketball that he could anoint.

Hurley won the game of thrones

Hurleys ascension to the top of the sport has been fascinating to watch. His family history, his transparency, the authenticity around his antics and his team culture have just becomes contagious. The winning and fact that he takes any interview he can get also helps :).

I watched a post NC podcast amongst a couple Illinois fans and the commentary was that unlike other elitist blue bloods UConn is hard not to like.

Skim other BE boards and all ecstatic Hurley back as great for the BE, outside of our one little brother PC.

He approaches the profession with a perfect balance of confidence, humility and passion.

There’s no way the Dook faithful would believe he said any of this lol!

Hate to say it, for decades couldn’t stand the guy, but he is a terrific coach And honest and a good guy. I still lie to people and say I can’t stand him. But a closet fan.Sue me.
Similar feelings for me regarding Coach K.

Whenever he has been asked about UConn, especially concerning Coach Calhoun, Coach K has always been complementary and respectful.

It’s been his family’s whole life and it’s all he’s ever known. Says it all from his HOF dad on down. He just could never sit on his laurels because they are not built that way, and it actually shocked me when he started to talk about another title immediately after the last one.

Love how Hurley built from high school on up and took a couple years while at UConn. It’s a great reminder when projects/work stuff isn’t exactly where you want them right now

To be fair to PC they have hated Hurley long before he was UConns coach. This is a fever dream cocaine fueled nightmare for them. A coach they loath going from their little brother to their big brother and winning it all twice and being lauded as the present and future of college hoops.

This exactly, the hate has been going strong since 2012. Cooley took over a PC program that was in rough shape. Hurley took over a URI program that could not have been in a worst place, both on and off the court, in a lesser conference. PC fans took a lot from their wins over Rhody because you grasp at what you can.

Plus, when Hurley was getting interest from other teams (St. John’s, Rutgers) years before UConn, PC fans loved talking about how, although he was an awful coach(?), URI also wasn’t going to be able to keep him, while their guy was there for LIFE!! But no! It’s objectively funny. I think English is pretty good, Hurley likes and respects him, but they can never take away my joy of PC fans being down bad as it all happened.

But back to Coach K- the families have been tight for almost 40 years. He’s godfather to Bobby’s oldest, the way he was there for them when Bobby almost died, he’s known Danny since he was a kid. There’s a lot of special stuff there, so of course he means all this. I’ve comfortably moved into my disliking Duke phase, but that stuff is real.

I think coach K is a piece of garbage and I dislike him immensely. That’s just me.
