It's interesting that he always talks about how they only recruit a certain type of kid to play here, meaning good coachable kids, not just great basketball players. But it seems like this team has some players that are neither.

Bill Parcells said a great coach could “take his’n and beat your’n and take your’n and beat his’n”. I think we are finding out that is not DH.
So... Parcells was not a great coach?

You say it privately in locker room to motivate. If you put it in the press it may motivate but it helps absolve you of criticism. Both his goals ? IMO, not a fan of this technique.
I know you despise Dan Hurley but this makes no sense. No part of this quote is trying to absolve Dan Hurley of any blame

This team is too beat up to practice at Hurley level. They get more injuries in practice than in games.

I dont despise Hurley at all, think he is among the best coaches going. I had first positive post about him in Praise Hurley thread. Having been a coach for 25 years, I dont like a coach calling out their players for being weak willed publicly, especially since you sanctimoniously bragged on they are right type of people when you recruited them.

Saying your players arent tough enough to take your hard coaching shifts the issue to his players being the problem. Therefore if they were only tougher, I could coach them up. He's a great coach who is having a good season, but not three-peat he dreamed of, and his recent public comments point away from him, towards his players. Describing the oob blame issue in presser is good example of this deflection of criticism.

Sorry if you somehow aren't able to intellectually perceive that.

Pitino did same thing last year, and I think he is among best coaches to ever do it.

What Pitino said and what Hurley said are not the same. Hurley even said that the entire team, he included, were not prepared for this level of scrutiny

Pitino said in February last year that the season is lost, that the team isn’t tough (not that they can’t be coached tough) and that it’s been the most unenjoyable experience of his life

I don’t know. He sees time ticking away on this season and we still don’t have any junkyard dog in us. And we’re about to go play the biggest game of the year in a tough crowd. Now or never to get these guys a little mad.
Let's hope his thought process is as "deep" as yours and not just a slip of the ego damaged tongue.

true, Pitino completely threw them under the bus with that final part

the part about being unprepared for scrutiny when he brought it upon himself, I dont buy as much.

I don’t know. Nobody is perfect. My issue is he thinks 2 rings is proof positive he is perfect. He's got a poorly structured team with some misses, and as I’ve said a few times here the expectations and pressure put on this team is enormous. They don’t look like they are having fun and play tight.

Well if you actually listened to his post Seton Hall comments like you say you did then you would have heard him talking about how he needed to do a better job coaching and the blame falls on him. And these comments are a reflection of that by saying he needs to coach them differently than what he's done the last few years.

Maybe you wouldn't publicly call out your players, but that's why you're sitting on your couch and Dan Hurley is getting paid millions of dollars to coach

So I’m watching the Tennessee Texas A&M game. These teams have some very tough physical players battling every possession and under the basket. Junkyard dog stuff. Hurley wants that for this team but doesn’t have it and it has shown in our record.

Deflection narrative achieved. You recruited these nice kids from a good family, but they arent tough enough, got it.

I think we bashed Pitino when did the same end of last year. It's an ego saving measure. Coaching implies coaching what you got.

This is not something that matters. Every team is different. This team clearly is lacking a take charge personality.

They aren't as good as last tw years. If they best marquette and St Johns, no one is gonna remember seton hall except those who had their Saturday ruined.

This team is just a bit passive and wildly inconsistent. Happens.

in his post game seton hall comments he talks about how his players need to do a better job to getting open, making cuts, making a second move, faking going deep. "You have to want to get open". "they did alot of things that make you look like a poorly coached team" Thats the first two minutes of the video.

And youre insult cuts deep, lol. You really are a clown, but most of the board knows that. Your bball knowledge is clearly beyond reproach

show me the clip where he says the blame falls on him. Mustve missed it. Can you show me?

ps watch the first 2 minutes, in case you missed it lol

A wise man told me it’s easier to coach a 5 man rookie NBA team (last years team). Then it is to coach a normal college level basketball team.
Yeah it’s really cringe to keep trying to compare how easy it was to coach a team with two top 5 picks and game changing 7’2 cheat code to this normal but talented college hoops team.

Especially after spending a whole summer hyping them up.

I did not read article but this should stay in the locker room! Sometimes I think Dan thinks too highly of himself!!!
Sometimes? Listen, I’m obviously thrilled he’s our coach. But imo he’s carried himself like a tool for the past year. You can’t spew ad nauseum how UConn is a culture for the right players and families bla bla bla and then go public, repeatedly now, that they do not have the personalities to handle your coaching. You brought them here. You told anyone who would listen about the UConn/Hurley way. It’s your job to figure out how to reach them and not go public telling everyone how they can’t handle YOUR way.

He's just being honest. If you want coachspeak, he ain't your guy.

That’s fine. But don’t be hypocritical then. You can’t use every opportunity to talk about how you recruit only the “right” guys and then say they are the wrong guys and you can’t coach them your way.
