He has to get better at this. Individual players have abused our defense on multiple occasions leading to too many losses. His half court pressure with the focus on the hard hedge overall is very effective but against smart coaches with the right players it can be a disaster.
Cases in point: Allen from NMSU: Jackson tried to be up in his face which allowed him to penetrate at will. The other players spread out so with the current scheme there was no way to help. As others have mentioned, a box and one or triangle and two should have at least have been tried.
Gillespie at Nova, Richmond at Seton Hall, Lewis at Marquette, and Ballock at Creighton last year all abused us by backing down their man for easy buckets and fouls inside.
McDermott and Kalkbrenner abused us for 20 pts in the second half all off the same slipped screen …all of this with waiter poor or no adjustment.
Perhaps Coach’s dad can talk to him but this needs to change before we move forward!
