The fog of the last two years is beginning to lift, meanwhile somewhere in Eastern Connecticut someone is angrily trying to bang a square peg into a round hole.

This is good news I think. McCombs goes down way to easy to be an everydown back. If there's a mix with Williams and maybe even Clax and Max I think it's a good thing. We have got to get back to running the ball effectively, especially with the young defense we will be putting on the field this season.

McCombs, and Williams seem to be similar backs. They need Clax leading the way for Max as the 2nd rb option.

Last year more like a Murray than a John Deere.
we just need the o line to accomadate a bus and we will be fine. This was 90 percent of the running issues last year

I agree that Oline issues were last year's problem. McCombs didn't forget how to run the ball or "lose confidence" as was reported somewhere last year(unless it was confidence in the blocking!!). Although I was screaming for Joe or Max to get a chance last year, it may be that the blocking wasn't good enough to spring them. Also, the philosophy of the coach was to have a workhorse back. I agree with that when you have Donald Brown getting you 5 yds a carry and the strength and speed to give you some breakaways. Not so much with a smaller, less speedy back who can't break away. We need to have guys that can give us production, spell the starter, give the defense a different look, and help wear down the defense in the second half (rather than be worn down by the defense). I think that Weist and Buggs both believe in those things and will be trying to implement that in spite of what PP has said in the past. PP is going to be hands off the offense because he knows his strength is defense and that people were brought in specifically to fix the offense. If he interferes, he will be hastening his own demise.

Curious to know what similarities exist between McCombs and Williams. I hardly see any.

That people still focus on what coaches say, no matter how many times reality departs from their self-serving statements, is just beyond my comprehension.

If one believes what's published, Williams is three-inches taller and thirty-one pounds heavier. By all accounts, Williams is noticeably faster which is probably why he's getting extra attention from the OC. Coaches, writers et.al. have all mentioned Williams' speed. I hope they are right and I hope the kid can play. Nothing scares opposing DC's like speed.

I just hope somebody pans out and the line gets it together. Anybody.
